Not only did Trump lie, again, during his #TrumpRally when he said that he won the 2020 election. He also claimed he did better the second time. This is false.
He got more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016 because more total people voted. But the percentage voting for him fell.
Also, some Trump folks get confused because Trump got more votes in 2020 than he did in 2016 but yet lost.
People, this is the FOURTH TIME IN U.S. HISTORY that an incumbent President got more votes in the election he lost (his re-election bid) than he got in the election he won.
Incumbent President John Quincy Adams got more votes in 1828 when he lost re-election than he got in 1824 when he won the Presidency.
Incumbent President Martin Van Biden got more votes in 1840 when he lost than he got in 1836 when he won the Presidency.
Incumbent President Grover Cleveland got more votes in 1888 when he lost re-election than he got in 1884 when he won the Presidency.
And President Donald Trump, got more votes in 2020 when he was Incumbent President but lost re-election than he got in 2016 when he won.
In 2016, Trump became only the fifth President in US History to win a Presidential election despite not getting the most votes.
If Trump had been able to successfully overturn the 2020 election, which he LOST, he would have been the only President in US history to have won TWO elections without EVER having gotten the most votes.
So, Trump is lying again.
He lost the election.
He did not do better, margin-wise, the second time.
In fact, in 10 states in 2020, he did worse than any Republican candidate had done in at least several decades.
A note to all the people who are upset about whatever but who mock people who tell them that the answer is voting. The MSNBC crowd seems to especially get all upset at this. “Stop telling us to ‘vote harder!’“
That’s exactly what I’m telling everybody. And I brought facts.
About one third of the US Senate was elected in 2016, when 40.8% of eligible voters didn’t participate at all. Another third was elected in 2018 when 50.6% of eligible voters didn’t participate. And the other third was elected in 2020 when 33.8% of eligible voters didn’t vote.
Were you among this number? Did you vote for Senator, US Representative, Governor, Mayor, County Council, etc? Or did you just vote for President?
These are the people who make decisions about your life. And your country. Where you live.
I love reading biographies. I love trying to learn lessons from other people’s lives and experiences, both positive and negative. As I read them, I add to my list of things that maybe I should do and thinks I shouldn’t do based on what happened to other people.
My motto is, just as it’s better to get a scholarship and have other people pay for your education than it is to pay yourself, it’s better to learn from other people’s examples than to learn the hard way myself.
I learn a lot from both good stories and bad stories.
One thing I just realized though is that I get through them slowly because I’m an obsessive fact checker.
If somebody says they were at a famous event on a Tuesday in 1975, I actually stop to check to see if the event happened in 1975. And if it happened on a Tuesday. I’m weird.
