Perhaps this is the actual reason why Godot's lead developer has decided to open-source Godot in the first place, just to receive donations to buy a new PC? π
By the way, Juan is from Argentina (South America).
I live in Ukraine, so I totally get this sentiment. Do people tend to use open-source technology because they are poor? Perhaps it boils down to mentality and particular ideology, and it's a matter of personal choice, not limitation?
I oftentimes read that #Godot's development is driven by passion and out of love for those who make games. Why not just develop #GodotEngine independently, then? Why receive donations? What, having passion is no longer enough for Godot to thrive?
This so-called "love" that the lead developer of Godot tries to portrait, Juan, aka @reduzio, is nothing more but love bombing. This "love" is accompanied by "become Patron", which makes it a truly IT cult organization which aims to milk money.
You'll read phrases like "preaching gospel of Godot" from those who donated to Godot via Patreon already. I'm not kidding, you can look at articles such as this one.
Some Godot followers keep saying to me that I should stop talking negatively about Godot, saying that this is unhealthy or excessive. The more you try to discourage me to stop this, the more this motivates me to talk negatively about Godot! π
Because this amount of gaslighting and slandering as done by Godot followers is very alarming. To Godot followers, it's like I never existed in the first place... I repeat: I'm an ex-developer of Godot. You can verify this for yourself by launching Godot's "About" window.
I do not hide anything about myself. I'm a real person, with a real name.
Godot cult: instead of discussing facts, Godot followers choose to publicly label me as insane, crazy, mentally-ill, suggest professional help, get therapy etc.
The following are examples of such toxic behavior.
When people call others crazy or suggest professional help in this context, then this what describes gaslighting, a very destructive form of manipulation:
Some Unity users and even moderators within Unity community are infected with the futile ideology of waiting for Godot! This must be fixed! Let me explain why.
This created a mass hysteria on Unity forums. Because of this, Unity folks were heavily discussing Godot there to consider switching to as an alternative to Unity, so I decided to share my perspective there:
Juan's hypocrisy in one picture, aka @reduzio! He publicly says that he encourages public discussions. But privately, he will tell you that expressing disagreement in private is far more productive and useful!
I totally realize that everybody in Godot community simply adore Juan, but he has undue influence over you, so let me explain this. Feel free to read this before continuing:
Disagreements are at the heart of every fruitful discussion. If you agree, that's fine. If you disagree, that's also fine, because disagreement challenges different viewpoints that lead to actual consensus. You can read this article which explains this:
