Reports reaching Nation Online indicate that Centre for Democracy and Economic Development (Cdedi) executive director Sylvester Namiwa has been picked by unknown people.
According to Cdedi communications officer Edwin Mauluka the incident happened around Area three in Lilongwe, 45 minutes after Namiwa and other human rights activists held a joint press conference at Crown Hotel.
During the briefing the activists reaffirmed the planned nationwide demonstrations scheduled for tomorrow.
The protests, among others, are meant to force Chakwera to keep his promise of reducing Presidential powers and also acting on Section 91 to remove Presidential immunity.
Lilongwe Police Station spokesperson Hastings Chigalu confirmed that they have received a report about the incident but could not comment more referring Nation Online to National Police spokesperson.
National Police spokesperson Harry Namwaza could not give more details saying he was yet to get more information.
Namwaza: For now I can't comment much because I am yet to get more details on the case. But what police will do is to institute prompt investigations into the issue to get to the bottom as to what really happened.
