Alysha is a CSA victim survivor. It is a source of deep understanding. Her lived experience is a source of compassion, purpose, courage & determination - to ensure harm is prevented, that voice of disadvantaged & abused youth are heard, & changes enacted. #taspol@Tasmania_COI 👇
I walked the journey of reporting her abuser with her, ultimately leading to a conviction & can ensure all that that experience, whilst understandably difficult, was nothing in comparison to the experience of reporting institutional abuse within the state of Tasmania. 🧵👇
On the personal journey WA state servants listened... they believed. They didn’t seek to discredit, to gaslight, to minimise… They didn’t inexplicably announce confidential outcomes publicly without togetherness of consent… 🧵👇
They didn’t lose important documentation & complaints, disband investigative teams, whitewash ‘independent’ reviews wrought with conflicts of interest and factual inaccuracies, nor confiscate files or delete video evidence of abuse… 🧵👇
They didn’t actively discourage reporting, nor wait 11 months for questions in parliament & the resulting public pressure to meaningfully act on credible reports… 🧵👇
They didn’t verbally, physically and emotionally bully and intimidate. She wasn’t punished & financially penalised. She wasn’t subjected to technical arguments or unnecessarily re-traumatised. She wasn’t denied access to the most basic of supports. 🧵👇
People were professional. They showed unwavering integrity. They were trauma informed. They were supportive. They took action. The system worked. 🧵👇
They were grateful to her courage… for the example and hope that gave to others… & to the protection of the community. She was supported, and commended for her bravery. 🧵👇
The comparison is gut-wrenchingly stark - it’s heartbreaking and soul destroying to watch. It isn’t ok. Not only is @LyshRose being destroyed by this - also now, is the opportunity for the voices of so many vulnerable youth. @RockliffTeam the time to act is now.
