This is a real problem with story telling that really speaks to the insecurities of our current culture. We live in a society that constantly wants to not only do whatever they want, but be cheered on as they do it. It’s a culture full of people that has grown too narcissistic-
Too self involved, and let’s be honest, too prideful to look beyond themselves. And it’s unfortunate that these are the people who are in charge of writing our heroes. Because in all honesty they aren’t writing our heroes, but rather themselves masquerading as our heroes-
And why you may ask? Simple. They see these characters and stories have massive cultural appeal. And so in thier minds, if the characters that appeal to so many, give the thumbs up on thier lifestyles, then by thier logic, the culture in turn would have no choice but to comply-
Or get left behind as the bandwagon takes off. The more you look at it, it seems more like a social experiment rather than story telling. Seeing if they can change society to thier whims through these stories. It’s as Darkseid once said-
And as the picture above implies, that’s exactly what these writers have done. They have deconstructed the concept of heroes to be something to aspire to, as something to simply relate to. Basically telling people “ you no longer have to strain your necks!-
You no longer have to look up to anyone! All you have to do is just be yourself and we’ll make the characters perfect reflections of you!” Which basically is a recipe for making hamlet type characters. Now hamlet is a character that we can relate to… however-
No one, and I mean no one wants to be like or look up to hamlet. Because yes he’s extremely relatable. But when it comes to getting things done, he’s ineffective. He fails to overcome his failings when he needs to. And people suffer for it. That’s practically the same approach-
Writers have taken with these characters that were once heroes. These characters are more obsessed with who they are rather than doing acts of selflessness. Now I’m gonna be brutally honest and this statement is going to REALLY ruffle a lot of feathers. Some may even be close-
Freinds that may unfriend me after what I’m about to say, but I do believe it’s worth saying to really strike at the core of what I’m saying. The LGBT, and superheroes don’t mix. And i will explain why. Superheroes whether they be aspirational or cathartic motivational are-
Supposed to inspire thier audiences to feats of heroism, selflessness, and overcoming any sense of self doubt in order to get a job done. They are supposed to inspire thier audiences to greatnesses. Even the flawed heroes, back then, just because they were flawed, didn’t mean-
That they didnt aspire to be the best that they could possibly be. Even anti heroes like punisher serve a purpose, both as a dark fantasy but also as a cautionary tale. Because even tho Frank is doing why he wants with the criminals , can you honestly say he’s happy?-
That type of stuff. But now we no longer have the aspirational, the cathartic motivational and the anti hero. We now just have the cathartic and the anti hero. And this is why the LGBT really doesn’t mix with superheroes. Because it’s an ideology that doesn’t really promote-
Selflessness, or any qualities to aspire to. It basically tells those who are members of that, they don’t need to change. It’s not thier job to be better. They don’t owe anyone anything. In fact, it’s the world that owes them everything.-
It’s basically an ideology that seeks to protect people out of fear of their vulnerabilities. But in doing so, they have ensured that they will always remain vulnerable. For their opposition, has taken, and given sharper criticism than they will ever face. -
That’s why when you hear a lot of writers talk about them writing heroes, they talk about it as “ A journey of self-discovery” or “ A story where they find themselves.” None of which has any amount of hero written over it. And in turn, you get characters that aren’t heroes, and-
Only really help people out of cause-and-effect. It’s an ideology that really privileges the self over all. And they want to write stories, that privileges themselves just as much as their ideology does. This is why you get writers talking more about the character sexuality-
Rather than the writers talking about the characters themselves. Because they’ve either inserted themselves into the character, or, they inserted the people of the ideology into the character. In fact, it’s the main reason why whenever a sexuality change happens, you get people-
Who will defend those changes so rabidly. Because it’s not really the characters that they are defending, rather, it’s themselves that they are defending. They want the whole world to validate themselves. And shame those who do not validate them.-
It’s a constant need for self validation, that has led to the most rabid, and most toxic fandoms, that will defend any change made to characters under the sun. Because they have invested their very beings into these characters. So much so they would rather die than give it up.-
And that by the end of the day, makes very psychologically ill, or unhealthy people. It’s bad psychology, to invest oneself so much and so heavily into a character. Especially when it gets dragged to the point of name-calling,and ruining lives.
Superman: antithetical to the LGBT ideaology.
(Thread) #Superman
This thread is a bit of a sequel to my last thread. In the last thread I talked a bit about the LGBT ideaology and why that ideaology doesn’t mix with superheroes. To sum it up real quick, it’s an ideaology that has its members unsure of who they are, leaving them insecure-
Seeking to find validation and acceptance wherever they can find it. Whether it be guilting people or forcing them into giving it to them. An ideaology that gets rid of selflessness and sacrifice in favor of the selfish pursuits.-
