New study on #ConstructiveJournalism: “Neutral Observers or Advocates for Societal Transformation?” At @UniLeipzig @ifkmw, we conducted a survey among German constructive journos on role orientations + other stuff (Open Access, doi.org/10.17645/mac.v…). Some results in a🧵(1/6):

(2/6) The key inspirers of German constructive journos are @UlrikHaagerup, @PositiveMaren, M. Gleich, U. Scheub of @klimajourno, @tirosenberg and @amandaripley (@soljourno). But it seems that the field has grown organically and has not been shaped primarily by a few masterminds.

(3/6) When asked about the most pressing problems facing our society, climate crisis leads, followed by social inequality and division of society. And they strongly agree with the item “Our society must be fundamentally restructured in order to be fit for the future”.

(4/6) Their role orientations differ from those of the average German journalist (researched by @nina_e_st @CoLauererMuc @THanitzsch): less neutral/detached observation, more criticism of the powerful, more influence on the political agenda, more contribution to social change.

(5/6) It seems that #ConstructiveJournalism in Germany is a response not only to a negativity bias in the media, but also to journalistic detachment in times of an existential crisis. Better to say #TransformativeJournalism? (cc @MichaelBruegge @Umweltredakteur @Kuempser)
