While I was interacting with students yesterday, through direct DM, many have asked me regarding economics. It seems like many are scared of economics.
Hence decided to write a thread on economics 🧵🧵
How to approach economics for UPSC ? How to make economics our strength ?
1. Incase you have joined coaching, focus more on economics classes.
You can study Polity, History etc from books. But for economics, classes are important. Classes are important to learn basic concepts of economics.
2. Incase you have not joined any coaching, you can watch Mrunal sir or any other faculty videos on economics. Get your basic concepts like Depreciation, appreciation, Bank rates, BOP, inflation, fiscal policy etc... very clear.
Once you get basics right you become unstoppable.
3. Make notes from the classes you attend.
You need to make notes and revise them regularly. Only through multiple revisions you can ace the concepts. Making your own notes is best way to revise basic concepts.
4. Have one reference book for subject.
Keep one source, it can be Ramesh Singh, Sriram IAS material, Mrunal Sir notes etc. Just pick up one. No need to waste time on reading multiple books. Keep revising the same book multiple times.
5. Then ? Economics mock tests for Prelims.
Give as many mock tests as possible. Check your conceptual understanding of subject.
Find new concepts which are not covered in classes, books in the mock tests ? Add it to your notes. It increases your coverage of the subject.
6. Economics for mains, GS-3.
For economics, mains section need special attention. Few topics which are not given much weightage in Prelims, becomes important for mains.
Try to have your own notes on each topic given in mains syllabus.
7. Sources to make notes for mains economics section ?
Mains economics section topics are generally not covered in standard books and classes.
Use Vision IAS mains 365 & Mock test solutions of past 3 years, to make notes on each topic given in syllabus.
8. Practise answer writing for mains.
Write answers daily, give mock tests regularly. To ace mains you need to ace answer writing.
With these steps you can ace economics, making it your strength area of UPSC.
Hope this thread is helpful. If you find it helpful, make sure you spread this thread.Retweet it, share it. Many aspirants like you would be beneficial.
Sir you keep on saying, not to make notes from Ncerts, standard books, current affairs monthly magazines, newspapers etc for UPSC Prelims.
Notes banana kis cheezo ka hai, for Prelims, yeah batao ?
A thread on Prelims notes making🧵 🧵
Firstly, notes making is important for Prelims. I am not against notes making for Prelims. In fact i stress on importance of notes making for both Prelims and Mains.
But, i don't support notes making from books like Lakshmikant, Spectrum, Monthly current affairs magazines, important ncerts because these books are very important for UPSC. Can't be selective in reading these books. These books must be read multiple times.
Note : This is exclusive thread for mains notes making, not for Prelims.
1. You don't need to make notes from standard books like Lakshmikant, Spectrum, etc.
Read these books in a such way that you can revise them for mains in a day. What's the point of making notes, if you can revise the book in a day.
2. No need to make notes on topics which are covered in standard books.
I mean what's the point of making notes on Basic structure of constitution, Modern History etc. You would be reading them from standard books like Lakshmikant, Spectrum etc.
Modern India is very important for UPSC CSE Prelims. Master it like PRO.
A thread 🧵🧵
1. Read spectrum book.
First reading of spectrum book. Read it like novel or newspaper. No need to remember facts, no need to underline or highlight important points. Just read it to understand central theme of topics.
2. Revision of spectrum book. Infact, i call it second reading.
Keep PYQs from modern history near you. Before starting any topic analyse PYQs, how questions are asked, what type of questions are asked, etc. Read the topics through the lens of PYQs.
