Had a word with this trophy the other day alongside my 8 yo womens football fanatic… it definitely wants to come home… #Lionesses
Also should be said - hats off to the FA and whoever organised it - we went to most of the Brentford games and it was superbly organised, incredibly inspiring, players accessible to girls getting autographs etc - at £5 for kids tickets - entire primary classes could & did go…
We went to the womens World Cup in France / which was also brilliant, but say England-Scotland played out to 5000 fans in a 40k stadium… so absolutely spot on here to fill out smaller stadia and bring elite international sport to other communities…
“Critical incident” declared at Port of Dover with massive queues on one of biggest first real tests of functionality of post Brexit travel border… Port blaming lack of staff at juxtaposed French border controls in Dover, where everyone now needs to stop & have passport stamped
French authorities tell my colleagues in Paris that there was a one hour delay to full operation of French passport controls at 0830 in Dover due to “unforeseeable technical incident”
in the tunnel
“It was not until 09H45 that the booths were fully operational.”
Highways England warn drivers that Operation Brock contra flow/ lorry park on the motorway being altered, M20 closed to non freight traffic at key junction 8 heading for Channel… warns drivers heading for continent to “pack food and water” …
rather remember catalogue of angry abuse and ‘fake news’ accusations on here when I gently suggested 50bn euro divorce bill was coming, five years ago, after having been told about it on and off record... and we were basically starting to accept paying it news.sky.com/story/uk-faces…
Also led to my all time no 1 favourite doorstep of PM May at 2am in morning Brussels...
PM, is it true youre gonna pay 50bn euros to EU as part of a divorce deal?
May: “its been a constructive summit, and i look forward to working closely with our European partners”. Walks off.
Spain’s women play very nice football - Barcelona influence? not sure why but tiki taka in womens game is far more entertaining to watch than I find in mens game…
On public sector pay awards, these are the things to watch for...
Will the Govt just wave through the recommendations of the pay review bodies or adjust them in some way?
Has the Treasury provided more cash to fund above settlements above what has been planned?
The purpose of the pay review process is to balance off a comparison of pay levels with recruitment and retainment challenges (lots)...
Treasury was clearly saying last month that any department that wanted to fund higher settlements would have to find savings elsewhere...
There will be differences - eg new teachers are already on target for a significant rise under the plan to raise their wages to 30k, up 9% this year and 7% next...
Also worth looking out for Govt amalgamating this year and next...
