You’ve probably never heard of the American Board of Internal Medicine @ABIMcert & its nonprofit, @ABIMFoundation. Why would you be aware of a behind-the-scenes association for primary care doctors? But ABIM has gone woke, and now you need to know. #abimf2022 1/

Until recently, @ABIMcert’s work focused on maintaining rigorous standards for internal medicine docs & improving the doctor-patient relationship. Primary care doctors, unlike specialists and surgeons, deal intimately with their patients on a regular basis over many years. 2/

Most importantly, ABIM certifies physicians, sets standards for the field, and w/ its foundation, funds important research and initiatives. @ABIMFoundation also hosts an annual conference, which started today in Colorado Springs. #abimf2022 3/

The @ABIMFoundation conference brings together many leaders in the field – prominent practitioners, researchers, hospital and medical school officials, and foundation heads. They convene to set the agenda for the field. 4/

In 2020, ABIM decided – like so many elite institutions in America – that “antiracism” and other woke causes should be its new mission. That June, ABIM released a declaration similar to those other companies, schools, and organizations were issuing at the time. 5/

It combined a denunciation of our society and health care industry (“structural, systemic, and cultural racism”) with a confession of guilt (“we need to accept and understand our own roles in creating the current reality”)… 6/

…and a statement of obedience to the cause: “We pledge actively to do our part in opposing and dismantling systems and policies…We must accept the sobering fact that the present reality speaks to a collective organizational failure.” 7/

Soon ABIM pledged its “policies and programs” would “move from being ‘passively non-racist’…to being ‘actively anti-racist’ influences in health care.” Note: The central demand of “anti-racism” is pervasive, all-encompassing race-based discrimination. 8/

In August 2020, @ABIMcert formed a permanent “Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.” In September, it hired a “Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer.” The next month, it formed a “DEI Organizing Committee.” 9/

Earlier this year, ABIM created a permanent “DEI Taskforce” to implement its “DEI Strategic Plan.” Layer upon layer of DEI activists and commissars are now emplaced throughout the organization. 10/

None of this is mere virtue-signaling. @ABIMcert is genuinely attempting to carry out a revolution in the way your doctor is educated, trained, certified, and how he or she interacts with you. ABIM wants radical woke ideology to figure prominently in all of it. 11/

The strategy of @ABIMcert & @ABIMFoundation is to use their certification and grantmaking power to compel the medical field to turn political, activist, and woke. 12/

ABIM’s single most influential function is its exam that internists must pass every 10 years to maintain certification. Last year, ABIM’s board adopted a resolution to incorporate “health equity questions” in the test. Comply w/ ABIM’s political agenda -- or lose your job.

Then there’s @ABIMFoundation's financial power. This month the group announced $400K to several medical schools to fund woke and “anti-racist” programs and policies. 14/

ABIM is promoting “implicit bias,” a discredited theory that asserts all white people are inherently racist. ABIM now gives Continuing Medical Education credit for its “implicit bias” course. *CME credit is required to maintain certification.* 15/

One prominent ABIM funding partner is the far-left Macy Foundation – a prominent presence at #abimf2022 – whose work involves watering down the MCAT exam and declaring its commitment to increasing the number of black doctors “by any means necessary.” Any? 16/

Another ABIM partner is @Health_Affairs, a prominent medical journal. Its editor, Alan Weil, is a regular at ABIM events. He recently announced that Health Affairs had adopted racially discriminatory editorial policies under the guise of “equity.” 17/

If there was any doubt ABIM is coordinating it effort to impose a radical political agenda on our health care system, last week the group fulsomely endorsed @AAMCtoday's new “DEI competencies,” which will impose a woke new curricula on medical schools. 18/

ABIM’s promotion of shoddy concepts like “structural racism,” “implicit bias,” & “antiracism” are hostile to the doctor-patient relationship and especially to the very cause ABIM claims to care so much about: improving medical care for racial minorities & #BuildingTrust 19/

Ask yourself: Are minorities more or less likely to seek medical attention if they are relentlessly & falsely lectured that the entire medical system is racist? Medical care, especially care provided by internists, depends on trust. ABIM seems intent on destroying that trust. /20

How can @ABIMcert & @ABIMFoundation heal themselves? 1) Renounce “antiracism” & doctrines that advocate discrimination. 2) Stop promoting “implicit bias,” “systemic racism,” & unproven politicized claims that undermine trust. 3) Commit to raising standards, not lowering them. 21/
