READ THIS BEFORE MOVING ON: thread will include visuals (culture appropriation for example) and in depth talks on antiblackness and sexualization of women and children/teens alongside mentions of pedophilia.
I’m sure everyone has an idea or seen gyarus, you may have seen kogals and ganguros a lot! but let’s first understand what it is (just in case you don’t know)! if you want to know more I highly suggest researching more.
gyaru fashion is a subculture of Japanese fashion (j-fashion). because of the aspects of it (tanned skin, brown-blonde hair, etc) it’s a subculture that went against japan’s traditions. within said subculture, it also has different types.
some of these types include rokku, romanba and yamanba, kogal, ganguro and so many others, some may be inactive and others are more popular. many styles may include decorative nails, white eyeliner, accessories from medias (hello Kitty) and so on.
one of these inactive styles is B-GAL, may also be referred to as B-Kei, B-Gyaru and others. these quite literally mean Black ____. this style directly uses styles often found in black (sub)cultures. typically, the gals would read hip hop and R&B magazines and surround [contd]
themselves with these. tldr: they use black people and more so black women as an aesthetic. you may find them mimicking and using black hairstyles such as cornrows and microbraids. 
heavy tans are also found in this type, but tans in general can be seen in any gyaru style….which also includes the fact any of these gals may appropriate.
tans are nothing new, but I do think there should be a limit to how you tan. @/jandorasboxboutique made points on this! specifically point 3 and 4.

now, you may be wondering how the anime community comes into this. ofc we know how antiblack it is, but let’s go deeper with how gyaru is seen.
you may often seen kogals and ganguros with little to heavy tans, and sometimes they may be seen as ambiguous and be seen as black — for example Aiura Mikoto from Saiki K. First image is her from the anime, while 3 others from the game have her being lighter.
Also, Lord of Pastimers from Asobi Asobase. A lot of these characters are just poor representation of gyarus and often use black stereotypical imagery or at best the aspects of it.
Some of these characters tend to be sexualized too. For example, 15 year old Marin Kitagawa from My Dress-Up Darling, and from simply searching her name I saw panty shots, someone dressed as her in sexualized wear and more.
Another example, for which I really don’t wanna be showing but the title is very nasty can be translated as “I’m A Teacher At A Black Gyaru (High) School (or Academy)” ….it’s a fucking ecchi.
Black gals get the worst treatment, a lot of nonblack gals use us , how adults and pedos use gals and how much the overall community is exploited — the point of gyaru has not been cared for or taken into thought.
people confuse literal blackface for gyaru makeup (for example, the lion wear from Leo/need [pjsekai]) and then continue to excuse it. it’s very concerning how we see literal usage of blackface…and the excuse is that it’s gyaru. gyaru fashion should never include antiblackness.
gyaru fashion should never be an excuse for blackfishing and/or pretending to be black people. it’s not only misinformation but invalidates black people’s feelings. reminder that black gyarus exist and our voices should be heard.
