(MEMES) I don’t yet know what to write or say about it, but as a political commentator/analyst I feel I need to at least acknowledge that #DarkBrandonRising appears to be a thing that’s happening and gaining traction as President Biden keeps piling up the wins at home and abroad.
I guess I’d say this: the idea of a politician as a supernatural authoritarian creature doesn’t appeal to me at all, and I don’t think it appeals to many Democrats. But what the meme registers is that President Biden seems to be inexplicably good at getting *certain* things done.
Republicans want to be ruled with an iron fist and have [everyone else’s] freedoms taken away, so the “Dark MAGA” meme made a lot of sense: it encapsulated how much Republicans hate democracy and love the idea of a Big Brother/Daddy. With Democrats the whole thing hits different.
I think—from this standpoint—we can see #DarkBrandonRising as more of a metamodern joke: simultaneously serious and unserious. It is serious in the sense that Biden is a better president than many realize, and unserious in the sense that no Democrat wants an authoritarian leader.
(Okay, so I guess it turns out I *did* know what I wanted to say about this. Surprised myself, there.)
PS/ We certainly can’t ignore the possibility that the #DarkBrandonRising meme is *primarily* a sendup of the preposterousness of the “Dark MAGA“ meme—inasmuch as yes, Biden’s kicking ass pretty hard right now, but the way of depicting that we see in #DarkBrandonRising is satire.

1/ Russia has a 99% conviction rate at trial, which is a clear indication that its justice system does not meet international standards.
2/ There’s ample evidence in the public record to suggest that there were irregularities in this investigation that would’ve led to the case being tossed out in the United States—including the defendant being asked to sign forms in a language investigators knew she did not speak.
A clear-cut Bribery case investigated, inexplicably, as a FARA case—leading to Giuliani getting off scot-free. We’ve seen this before; the Russia scandal was a Bribery case inexplicably approached as a FARA case, resulting in Trump getting off scot-free. nytimes.com/2022/08/03/us/…
The exchange was simple: fake dirt on Biden for legal and political aid to Ukrainian oligarchs tied to the Kremlin and the Russian mafia. Both sides got tangible value and money even changed hands, but Manhattan prosecutors bought the notion that it was—wait for it!—“accidental.”
That’s right: a Ukrainian criminal linked to the Kremlin and the Russian mafia who was in the midst of lobbying the Trump administration not to extradite him to the United States “accidentally” paid tens of thousands to Trump’s lawyer and Manhattan prosecutors *bought that lie*.
The Arizona GOP declared Bowers a Republican “not in good standing” prior to his primary, which in past epochs of American history would be considered a criminal attempt to intimidate or bribe a man who remains a federal witness. Instead, DOJ lets Trumpists tamper with witnesses.
Americans must understand that when Trumpist Republicans identify someone as a federal witness acting counter to Donald Trump’s wishes, they’ll resort to anything from death threats to bribes to lawsuits to acts of political coercion to discredit, destroy or dissuade the witness.
Bowers was sanctioned by the Arizona Republican Party—which is run by one of Trump’s criminal co-conspirators (a “fake elector”)—explicitly because he honored his oath of office, honored a federal subpoena, and refused to commit crimes for Trump.
For only the second time in seven years I’ve reported a tweet for a reason having nothing to do with me personally. I’m posting an image here so that others who want to report Dinesh D’Souza for clearly violating Twitter’s “Glorification/Celebration of Violence” policy can do so.
PS/ I’d add that Trumpist radicals like Dinesh have been clamoring for the harshest possible dealings with China for years—often falsely claiming that Democrats wish to coddle China instead. Now Speaker Pelosi is standing up to Xi and—again—the insurrectionists want her murdered.
PS2/ The only conclusion to be drawn here is that the Trumpists don’t care about China or national security or terrorism or American sovereignty or American foreign policy or American domestic policy or indeed *anything at all*. They just want all Democrats to be dead or in jail.
MAJOR BREAKING NEWS: Trump’s Pentagon Deliberately Destroyed All Its Texts, Decimating Critical Evidence and National Security-Related Material in What Continues to Look Like—at DHS, the Secret Service, and now DoD—the Biggest Cover-up in American History cnn.com/2022/08/02/pol…
PS/ We need no longer question why the Republican Party got behind the coverup of an armed insurrection. It’s become evident that the top levels of the GOP—within the legislative branch, the executive branch, and possibly even the judicial branch—had some complicity in January 6.
PS2/ Donald Trump inexplicably appointed four men to roles in (or connected to) the Pentagon after he lost the election—Kash Patel, Ezra Cohen-Watnick, Corey Lewandowsi, and David Bossie—at least two of whom, and likely all four, were active insurrectionists. This is scary stuff.
MAJOR BREAKING NEWS: Suspicious Explosion in Bulgaria Could Stoke Fears That Donald Trump Ally Vladimir Putin, a Sadistic Despot and War Criminal, Is Seeking to Widen His War on Western Democracy—Including into NATO Countries with An Article 5 Responsibility to Respond Militarily
NOTE: Every single American should hope that this explosion at a Bulgarian munitions site had nothing to do with Russia, because if it did, it constitutes the most dangerous escalation of Putin’s violent madness—vocally *bolstered* by Trump’s allies in Congress—we have yet seen.
MORE: “The blast took place in the early hours of Sunday at a munitions facility near Karnobat in the east of the EU [and NATO] country. Nobody was hurt and it wasn’t immediately clear what caused the explosion...Russia’s Foreign Ministry didn’t respond to a request for comment.”
