So the problem of MD shortages is so very real. ❤️ the timely article, agree with so much of it, but only partial solutions discussed here. A thread for some more color to this 🧵 1/8

As the MD numbers don’t add up from supply-demand curves, we started a “fellowship/residency” for NP/PAs in critical care & then pulmonary @RKleinpell is a pioneer in this space.

At some point #Telemedicine has to be considered to leverage technology & scale expertise. @ADVISSOR_One is trying to lead this on a national scale

Simple things done well, consistently, like the care standards of #ICULiberation #A2FBundle can make a real difference. @WesElyMD

Team-based care is imperative, but teaching physicians & others to operate in teams takes work & discipline. @TimBuchmanMDPhD @confectionsmd are really good at this.

#DigitalHealth solutions are almost imperative to address MD shortages. @RasuShrestha @TToddDunn & others helping to create an ecosystem of digital tools to help clinicians be more efficient & effective

The Time article does not mention the importance of industry & community partnerships. The work takes a village from all. @LindsayDeneault @rohitdukemehta

One more thing: national societies need to work together to help address the existential crises in physician shortages. Calling on all @accpchest @atscommunity @SCCM @AASMorg etc to lead the way.

I was reminded to think also of the #EMR & #DecisionSupport. So much here that can address the MD shortages. @DrSullivanEM with so much impact that can be impacted in this space. Sometimes the EMR gets a bad rap, but so much it can do.

Today we cremated my father, who died this past weekend after suffering effects of #LongCovid accelerating his dementia & other health problems. He went from an adventurer to a cripple in a matter of months. A 🧵 1/
He got COVID spring of ‘21 before being fully immunized. Initially seemed like he recovered, but clearly more trouble with memory, weakness, motivation. thelancet.com/journals/lanps…
And then this sudden lack of desire to move became harder to overcome his weakness. @HeidiEngel4 @IcuPerme @ellenhillegass would have loved to have had PT prioritized for him. We knew he needed but he lacked motivation & resources
