Instead of addressing the true source of gun crime in Canada, the Liberal government is unilaterally banning imports without parliamentary input, impacting a multi-billion dollar industry and thousands of retailers and small businesses, with very little notice. (1/8)

Rather than prioritizing safer communities through combatting gang violence and stopping the flow of illegal and smuggled guns hitting our streets, today’s announcement is yet another example of the Liberal government attacking business owners and law abiding citizens, (2/8)

and disrespecting an important part of Canada’s cultural heritage.

The vast majority of gun crime in Canada is attributed to gangs and criminals with illegal guns smuggled in from the US. Today’s announcement will do nothing to stop the flow of illegal handguns, (3/8)

which make up the majority of the guns used in gun crime and violence in Canada.

Conservatives have always supported common-sense firearms laws and gun safety in our communities. (4/8)

For years we have called on the government to focus on supporting grassroots community organisations that prevent our youth from joining gangs in the first place, and invest in CBSA and police anti-gang and gun units (5/8)

to provide law enforcement with the resources they need to stop illegal firearm smuggling and gun violence at its root.

Sadly, the Liberals instead spent the last 7 years wedging, dividing, and stigmatising Canadians, (6/8)

blaming the wrong people for gun crime, and passing soft-on-crime legislation, which has only made our communities less safe. (7/8)

We remain concerned that the Liberal government continues to care more about making headlines than gun safety and they will continue to allow gun crime rates to increase without taking the right action to stop it. (8/8)
