@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow Patsy Stevenson has now launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for her legal case, which has so far raised £10,937 of her £25,000 target.

She said: "I wanted to pay my respects and grieve with other women who felt impacted by this act of violence."
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow And Dania Al-Obeid said: "I have been on the receiving end of brutal violence, I know what it feels like to have your life flash before your eyes.

"When the news broke about Sarah Everard, I could not shake away the fear and pain she must have felt in her final moments."
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow Patsy added: "I want to challenge the legality of this ill-treatment by the police, which other women were also subjected to.

"All we wanted was a space to collectively grieve and express anger, but this was denied to us."

@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow Dania added: "More than a year later, the Met are prosecuting me for breaching Covid-19 regulations."

"It feels surreal, like we’ve lost the bigger picture… like our reasons for attending do not matter, that lives lost to violence aren’t important."
londonworld.com/news/crime/met…
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow It comes after feminist activists @ReclaimTS organised a socially-distanced vigil but cancelled after being told they risked £10,000 fines.

They have since fought and won a high court battle with a judge finding police breached their human rights by preventing the planned event.
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow @ReclaimTS Women - including the Duchess of Cambridge - laid flowers at the bandstand anyway, before police later broke up the gathering and made arrests.

Six people have since been charged with breaching coronavirus restrictions over the event.
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow @ReclaimTS Police issued nine fines to people who had attended - seven of which were not paid.

Six people were then charged, with participating in a gathering of more than two people in a public outdoor place in a Covid-19 Tier 4 area, with no further action taken in one case.
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow @ReclaimTS It’s understood these cases were heard under the single justice procedure.

Ms Al-Obeid was convicted in her absence, and later applied to reopen her case.

She pleaded not guilty and told a court, on July 15, that she only became aware of her conviction after media reports.
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow @ReclaimTS Lawyer @PippaWoodrow, of @DoughtyStPublic chambers, who is representing Ms Al-Obeid: "[I’m] very proud to represent this brave woman.

"She’s right - ‘we should not be silencing those who speak up about violence against women, but using those resources to protect them’."
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow @ReclaimTS @DoughtyStPublic Ms Stevenson's legal team have written to the Met to challenge the legality of her arrest and treatment.

She said: "No matter what title the police have, no matter how great the power imbalance - you can fight them. If someone abuses their power, they must be held accountable."
@PatsyeStevenson @GettyImages @metpoliceuk @jamieklingler @PippaWoodrow @ReclaimTS @DoughtyStPublic The Met Police were contacted for comment by @LondonWorldCom and declined to respond.

But after allowing Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger to leave, Chelsea decided that they could not also let the club captain slip out the door to Spain. And eventually Cesar Azpilicueta signed up to a new two-year deal at Stamford Bridge. #CFC Image
Azpilicueta said: "After the Club World Cup, where I became the only player to ever win every trophy, [I felt] it was the time to go back to Spain. But then everything happened with this club. I wanted to stay committed. I never did anything against my club." #CFC Image

A housing association cut off its dead tenant’s gas supply almost TWO YEARS before her remains were found by police, an inquest has heard. Police found Sheila Seleone's skeleton in her Peckham flat in February 2022, but she probably died in August 2019. londonworld.com/news/housing-a…
Her housing association Peabody had cut off her gas in June 2020 after she had stopped paying rent - however did not check up on her. Residents had made several reports to Peabody - raising concerns about a bad smell, mail building up in her letter box and not having seen her.
At the inquest today, Southwark Coroner Dr Julian Morris asked: “No rent since August, no response for access for the gas inspection and therefore you cut the gas off at that stage ... any internal alarm bells ringing at that stage that there might be something amiss?”

A GP has called for a return to wearing face masks to cope with the rise in Covid-19 cases across the country. Dr Jackie Applebee has said a face mask mandate “is such a small thing”, and explained that the new variant is making “people sicker”. londonworld.com/health/coronav…
It comes as coronavirus rates continue to tick up - with more than 200K people now dead and almost 3.5m currently infected. In London at the start of the month, Covid hospital admissions increased by a fifth in a week due two Omicron subvariants. londonworld.com/health/coronav…
Now Dr Applebee, a GP in Tower Hamlets, has urged Londoners to start wearing face masks again: "It’s such a small thing to wear a mask and such a small thing to get proper ventilation in indoor spaces, public transport, and measure the CO2 levels."

Two firefighters have been admitted to hospital and 16 injured while battling the vicious wildfire blaze in Wennington, east London. At least eight houses are feared to have burned to the ground and 90 properties were evacuated.
londonworld.com/news/wenningto…
It comes as deputy commissioner Jonathan Smith admits climate change is now “front and centre” of the challenges faced by the emergency services. London was scorched by a record-breaking 40.2C heatwave yesterday, while the fire service declared major incident as fires surged.
Speaking at Wennington fire station today, DAC Smith, who has been a firefighter for 23 years, told LondonWorld: “We’ve never faced anything like the situation that we faced, not just here in Wennington, but actually across London yesterday."
