If I, as a 50yo man said I want to read stories to some random children in the Library, people would (rightly) be instantly suspicious.
What are his reasons, what are his motives? Why does a totally random guy want to read to my children in the library?
/1
What are his qualifications?
Were I a published children's author, that would make sense. Were I a poet or bard and this was my career, that would make sense. Were this a creative writing workshop, that would make sense.
But do you know what does not make sense?
/2
Why the fuck, if I put on makeup and dressed up as some pornified version of a woman in clown drag does the library and parents suddenly think that it's ok?
It's a man in a wig FFS!
Yes, children see 'dames' at panto, but they are "on stage" in a theatre, at a distance.
/3
They are professional actors. So that argument won't wash.
Even if there are no safeguarding risks (disclosure done, parents are present, CCTV), the only reason I can see for this is to inculcate in young children, the notion that this is a normal part of society...
/4
...and to present the gender religion as normal. The targeted children are clearly too young to even be thinking about relationships (gay/lesbian etc.), their own sexuality or "twerking drag queens", or being told they can be boy/girl on different days.
/5
We all make choices in life, and many people that wanted children did not have them for many reasons, and we just have to live with that in our own way. What we should not be doing is asking if we can borrow other people's children for a couple of hours to teach them...
/6
...about a rather unusual lifestyle choice.
Personally, drag is not for me. But we live in a pluralistic society, so if people want to do that it should be allowed "in adult environments" only.
/7
Drag Queen Story Hour #DGSH is blurring the lines for children between panto, circus, and adult entertainment that revolves around sex. This is not acceptable!

I want to tell you about my friend Donna (@MissBabbington) and what she does and has done for me.
(She doesn't know this)
Two halve, backstory, then now.
I was in a relationship where my GF had a phobia of all flying things.
/1
Now when I say phobia I do not mean the way it's bandied about cheaply on here.
What I mean is hyperventilating, sometimes frozen in terror, sometimes fleeing into shops or into road.
Now this made me very conscious of bees, wasps etc.
/2
...and I started to develop this too to protect/warn her.
When we split, I had to try and remember that in the past, this was not me.
So this is where Donna comes in. All her nature pics, her love of bees, feeding bees, spending time in forest with TBWT (the big white thing)

I try not to think of good things in life as anything more than serendipity (happy accident/luck find), but I randomly went into a charity shop looking at cheap paperbacks and someone was there, so I moved away and found a hardback section. It contained a book I bought at 17yo
/1
And lost between divorce and house moves. At 17 I had my own gold plated Osmiroid Calligraphy pens and this book and shadow Calligraphy pen. All Xmas cards and posh invites done by my fair hand.
It contains an aphorism I tried to live by and which is easy when you are young and not done/been through much.

Be Kind

Be kind is a euphemism for STFU (Shut The F**K Up) and allow me to trample over your rights and continue to act illegally in respect of the Equality Act 2010.
But it's much more than that. When *demanding* that someone be kind,
/1
there is an implicit assumption that what you are currently doing is either "unkind" or in some way "cruel". In this respect it is designed to guilt the person into complying with something they either know is illegal; is an infringement of their rights;
/2
or is socially unacceptable.

We must also ask ourselves exactly who are we being kind to? Are we being kind to the man demanding we pretend he is a woman? Are we being kind to ourselves and the rights of others who are too scared to speak up?

On @RichardDawkins & GC Views🧵

I am a big fan of Dawkins but don't agree with all his thoughts on religion. I do not consider myself a 'militant atheist' but I do firmly believe in science and reality. However it is with some trepidation that I welcome his foray into the
/1
"biological reality of sex" vs "gender identity" debate.
Just today he posted something many people (predominantly women) have been saying for years and his reach will ensure it is widely understood as a countermeasure to "the meaning of words change all the time" fallacy
/2
espoused by trans activist.

I understand Dawkins has a high academic and TV profile and broadcast media will naturally reach out to him. However, there are many excellent women who have been fighting this for years (decades even) and I would ask that,

Understanding Transubstantiation🧵
---------
Defn: the changing of one substance into another substance whilst retaining the appearance of the first substance.

Let's take a example: If I have a copper 2 pence piece and I say some magic words over it such as:
/1
"abracadabra, you know identify as a £2 coin, shebang!".
Now it still looks like a 2p piece, but it has magically transubstantiated into a £2 coin.
So then I go into a shop and buy £2 worth of goods and because the shopkeeper also believes in magic (transubstantiation)
/2
he accepts the 2p piece for goods up to £1.50 and gives me a 50p for change. All good.
Now if everyone believes the 2p piece is worth £2 we don't really have a problem because the 'value' becomes £2 and is accepted as £2.

On Pronouns, Schools and Ties 🧵
Reposting this because I see it coming up a lot. Also Cannot find the original tweet anywhere? Is twitter playing silly buggers?

In the west of Scotland, it would be common to get asked what school you went to.
/1
Now this is nothing to do with schools, it is an oblique way of asking if you are Catholic or Protestant religion. This would determine how people reacted to you and whether or not to beat you up.
In The generation before me,
/2
it could also be used to determine outcomes of job interviews in the same way that dodgy handshakes can and still do.

Similarly, at the upper end of society, wearing a specific university tie can be used as a statement to suggest status and inclusion in
