Andrew Koji, who compares his #BulletTrain character to Nicolas Cage in “Leaving Las Vegas,” lends gravitas to the film’s otherwise cartoonish violence: “For me he’s a guy who is on the verge of losing it.” latimes.com/entertainment-…
In an interview with @jenyamato from the set of “Warrior” Season 3, Koji discusses his work in the entertainment industry, from stunt doubling for Sung Kang in a #FastAndFurious film to landing a role opposite Brad Pitt and Hiroyuki Sanada. latimes.com/entertainment-…
“There were no Asian roles in England,” Koji says of the country in which he was born and raised. “I grew up in Britain but I was treated differently. I’m half-white but [in] this industry, you’re ‘Asian.’ We all go into the same box. It’s limiting.” latimes.com/entertainment-…
By 2017 he was all but ready to give up when, at his mother’s urging, he auditioned for and landed the life-changing “Warrior” role. Now, he's juggling a slate of upcoming films that includes a project with John Malkovich and a new action thriller. latimes.com/entertainment-…
“I didn’t think I would work again,” Koji says of his career after #BulletTrain. “’Warrior’ had just been canceled as well. I was just like, ‘Cool, this is a bonus round.’ ... And then I was like, “You know what? … I’m happy to be here, and to be alive.’” latimes.com/entertainment-…
“I know there is some controversy about representation,” Koji says of the Japan-set, but L.A. soundstage-shot #BulletTrain. “When I was on the set, I thought, they have done research; even though a lot of it was heightened.” latimes.com/entertainment-…
By the time Koji got the call about “Warrior’s” return, he’d already said goodbye to Ah Sahm. Now, he’s back on set: “You know how fragile this whole acting career is, how fickle. I thought, OK, that was my go at a Hollywood acting career.” latimes.com/entertainment-…
“I’d let go of it completely,” he says of his career after “Warrior’s” cancellation. “I did my best. Even now sometimes I think about changing careers. If I do, realistically, it will be to directing and producing.” latimes.com/entertainment-…
“’Warrior’ is a show that is important for Bruce Lee’s legacy, as well as changing my life, and also for Asian representation. For a lot of people it really means something. As tough as the shoot can be on my body and my mental space, I had to come back.” latimes.com/entertainment-…
“I have to finish this,” Koji says of “Warrior’s” return. “I hardly ever see an Asian show that finishes on its own terms. I think it would mean something if we can go from start to finish on our terms, rather than be canceled.” latimes.com/entertainment-…

In an approximately $66 million drug company settlement, the court made ex-judge John K. Trotter a gatekeeper for the funds. No money was to leave an escrow account at Comerica Bank except “as directed” by the retired justice, according to a court order.
latimes.com/california/sto…
Yet almost all of the settlement – some $65 million – poured into a separate law firm account controlled by Tom Girardi, according to internal Girardi Keese records that became public this year in bankruptcy proceedings.
latimes.com/california/sto…
Just over a month after he gained access to the money, Girardi wrote a check on that account for $750,000 to M.M. Jewelers.

The family-owned store in downtown L.A. had created several pieces in the $15-million jewelry collection of Erika Girardi.

Ana Lopez was 14 when her mom shared gossip about a woman in their neighborhood who, rumor had it, had gotten an abortion.

“Catholic people don’t do that,” Bertha Valdez said.

“Se va a ir al infierno,” Lopez recalls her mom saying. “She’s going to hell.”
latimes.com/politics/story… Image
Nearly three decades later, Lopez, now 40, says the memory remains vivid, a reminder of her family’s long-standing beliefs — and of how important it was for her to break with tradition and challenge the stereotype of Latinos as socially conservative.

The Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe vs. Wade after nearly a half century and subsequent abortion bans in many states have pushed reproductive rights to the forefront of the political debate ahead of the midterm elections.

Anne Heche’s “heart is still beating” despite new reports saying that the actor has died.

“She was declared brain dead last night but has been kept on life support for organ donation,” her representative said Friday in an email to The Times. latimes.com/entertainment-…

Helin Bereket spent hours driving her rental car down the dusty roads just east of Twentynine Palms earlier this year, photographing the abandoned homesteads that littered the desert landscape.

The Berlin-based photographer had read online about the forgotten shacks filled with shriveled reminders that they were once homes decades ago.

Many of the homesteads were built in the 50s as part of the Small Tracts Act, a program that awarded parcels to people who built homes on the property.

Today, the abandoned shacks are as much a part of the desert as the creosote bushes that dot the land.
