Today, state leaders should be taking every opportunity to use their power to end systemic racism. It is not enough to denounce it when you have the power to end it. Oregon's AG Ellen Rosenblum @ORDOJ has the power to topple a racist law. And she must.
Following the rise of the KKK in Oregon, the state passed a law allowing convictions when 2 jurors voted "not guilty." Last year, the Supreme Court struck it down. But hundreds of people convicted previously are still in prison w/o new trials scheduled.
Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum acknowledged non-unanimous juries are linked to racism. But she won't - yet - topple this racist monument. Human Rights Watch calls Rosenblum’s inaction "inconsistent with international human rights standards." oregonlive.com/pacific-northw…
