Some feedback coming back at me is deeply troubling. Here is an #FAQ.

Q: The variants now are a lot less lethal. Why do you not see this?

A: I do see this. I agree. I don’t claim otherwise anywhere.

Q: So you think @CDCgov shouldn’t change its mind?

A: That is absurd.
Q: So you think that @CDCgov shouldn’t be in a position to strongly push free people towards masks, testing, vaccinations?

A: Where are you reading this exactly? Maybe lay off the weed. Exotic powers are awful but necessary (e.g. Plague, Spanish Flu).

Q: Quarantine?

A: Rarely.
Q: So what then is your issue?

A: Look at the tools of public shaming, loss of livelihood, intimidation, name calling, destruction of business, transfer of wealth, immunity from liability, failure to hold hearings, adulteration of science, secrecy, coercion, etc. Wake up please.
Q: What do you want? A libertarian world?

A: I am not a libertarian. It doesn’t work sadly. We need institutions, so they have to be accountable. I am looking for high quality, dissent-friendly institutions that take responsibility and rarely wield exotic power, if ever.
Q: Too abstract. What do you want explicitly?

A: So glad you asked. Deep, painful, bipartisan hearings, minutes of meetings read into the public record, lifting of secrecy around vaccines. More hearings. Retractions. Exonerations, apologies, restitution by government & industry.
Q: Okay, but…

A: I actually wasn’t remotely finished. Whatever.

Q: So you are somehow just for ordinary moderate science driven functional government, and your main issue is to listen to reasoned dissenters rather than destroying them which you consider evil??

A: Yeah. That.
Q: Do you disagree with your conservative followers on CDC?

A: Yes. Some even claim to think no government, markets, zero taxes, firearms and infinite personal freedom makes for a happy world. I think that is NUTS! They think I’m nuts. But we keep talking. Mostly respectfully.
Q: When should @CDCgov have reversed course?

A: Don’t know. But this is way late, too abrupt, and in need of a massive explanation of why those who got there a bit earlier are tarred as Satan’s spawn, while when CDC says it they are beyond reproach. This is offensive. Evil even.
Q: So you think this is a huge update being passed of as a modest data driven course correction & that it requires a come-to-Jesus moment as to why we destroyed, cheapened & defamed so many reasoned critics and fellow citizens from whom CDC withheld full information?

A: Bingo.
Q: Could you say something that will keep people from misunderstanding in the future?

A: There is no right of any institution, nor those that defend their narratives, to destroy the credibility of any reasoned critic it knows to have a valid point against a misleading narrative.

Serious question. Why is the CDC of August 11, 2022 the true CDC? The earlier @CDCgov warned us against the Aug 11, 2022 CDC. According to the earlier CDC, the current CDC is endangering us all by commingling the exposed & the vulnerable. The masked & Unmasked. Vaxxed & Unvaxxed.
Said differently: why is the CDC in charge of reality after its bizarre behavior all during COVID? Why is Twitter enforcing bizarre mercurial guidelines? Why are the CDC/NPR/Fauci allowed to simply negate their previous mandates as if they simply are changing with “The Science”?
The word we’re looking for is adjacent to Iatrogenics. We need to discuss “Medical Receivership”, “Intellectual Receivership” or “Scientific Receivership” for those in the medical establishment that had public health *destroying* those that beat the CDC to their current position.

Of course. Much of this is basic.

Palestinian Arabs had a right not to be murdered by a zealot coward while they prayed (Hebron ‘94)

They have a right not to be massacred in refugee camps under Israeli watch (S & S 82).

Humiliation at checkpoints can be horrific.
Jews should have left Gaza ages ago as there is no compelling Jewish Claim on the land.

Israel should explain a plan for the West Bank. If two state solutions are dead, what follows? I can’t understand this. I’m lost. This is unethical & untenable.

No harassment by settlers.
Lastly, perhaps unsurprisingly, I find Jewish claims on the ancient land of Israel most compelling. But the various Arab groups have been on the land a long time. And those competing claims need to be heard & fairly dispositioned. And I don’t feel that has happened appropriately.

I traditionally find myself beginning with a great deal of sympathy for the legitimate concerns of Palestinian Arabs.

Then, I wait & watch:

“We welcome death!”

The rocketing of civilian targets in Israel.

“My child’s martyrdom fills me with joy!”

Etc.

I think “Oops: My bad”
These are things that hurt my heart most.

Any deliberate attempt to provoke a lethal Israeli response to gain sympathy/press.

Bragging to the world “We love death & martyrdom!” It doesn’t land well (at least in the US).

Celebrations of rocketing civilian positions.

And so on.
Finally, celebrating Hadiths about how the world will cry out to the Ummah to kill all Jews, and going on about about Jews as Crusaders, invaders or some such bullshit, is absurd.

I have love in my heart. But it hardens when I hear talk of genocide “From the river to the sea.”

"I've never seen anything as bad as the determination of a lot of people to say it's a recession," Krugman said. "It's above and beyond anything I've ever seen." -@paulkrugman

Would you like to talk about the Boskin Commission & the @BLS_gov pretending to move to a COLA for CPI?
Would you be interested in discussing an entire field of economic experts laughing for 5-8 years at those of us who tried to warn the world about the impending danger of Mortgage Backed Securities during the “Great Moderation”?
Would you be interested in discussing the treatment of George Borjas by economists for pointing out that Immigration actually carries costs & redistributes wealth rather than a miracle free lunch that simply cannot do anything harmful?

Etc. Etc.

Because that is all much worse.

“None of the usual criteria that **real** experts use says that we are in a recession.” - Prof. @paulkrugman

Have you dealt w/ economics professionally as an academic from another field? If not, it’s exactly like this: “Reason, fact, analysis, total bullshit, fact, a lie, fact.”
In fact the truths, insights, facts, analysis, etc. are pretty compelling. And they are the majority of what economists circulate.

And then the conversation turns, and out comes the superior dismissive insufferable gaslighting.

And you think: “Why ruin analysis with psychosis?”
I was lucky enough as a younger man to get to know Ken Arrow and Paul Samuelson slightly. They didn’t have this trait. Talking to Arrow or Samuelson was like talking to a research mathematician, biologist or physicist at the time. It wasn’t switching between reality & propoganda.

I thought about why the institutional Left (news desks, DNC, academe, etc.) calls so many “right wing” who obviously aren’t.

I think they mean “common sense” when they say “far right”. As in “Anyone who chooses common sense over ideology can’t be fully reprogrammed to the Left.”
So you might have someone who believes that only a woman & her doctor have the right to make a choice about abortion. The common sense person wants to know if a “trans man” is considered a woman under this rubric. Or “What are the limits of ‘identify as’ regarding gender? Race?”
As soon as these questions start getting asked, this person is told that they are Right Wing & bigoted. Which obviously makes zero sense.

But seen differently, the common sense person is not accepting the redefinition of all reality. Hence they aren’t part of the mega delusion.
