Status vs. Dominance — high rung on a long ladder, vs top rung on any ladder (even a short one)
"[T] promotes behaviours intended to enhance social dominance. However, recent research suggests that testosterone enhances strategic social behaviour rather than dominance seeking."
The authors looked at Japanese university's rugby players.
Now, you might be like "Ha! the Japanese - pffft" but I assure you, Gs are Gs worldwide. None of these guys are pussies, okay?
But they also have strict (again, Japan) social and team (rugby) hiearchies.
They played rounds of Ultimatum—You and a guy get money. He proposes a split. You accept, or reject (and you both get nothing).
Something is better than nothing, so the proposer might be like "$99 me, $1 you" and get acceptance.
But would 🎌 Rugbyzawa Chaderu 🎌accept that?
Maybe - but it depends on group status, and not individual dominance.
Players were anonymized, but participants knew the team seniority of the proposer they were dealing with.
"..among the most senior participants, higher testosterone was associated with lower acquiescence. Conversely, higher testosterone among the lower-status participants was associated with higher acquiescence."
as they say in the animes "Nani?!!?"
is this endocrine disruption?
No. The T levels were intact/could be controlled for (Chad Rugby players, but seniority interactions explained outcomes much better.
Senior players acquiesced *less* if their testosterone was high rather than low, while junior players acquiesced *more* if their testosterone was high rather than low.
The CEO who is like a weathervane and the Private who won't shut up and execute are probably both LOW-T.
The authors speculate a bit on the varsity days drama of Japanese rugby players to explain some outlier results, but those are less interesting to me and you can read the paper for that.

Recently several billionaire-holds-court groupchats asked me as a courtier (what can you do? that’s how it goes these days) to just explain why White/right wing/etc. Americans are so angry.
There are many other graphs I could’ve chosen and these are imperfect, but it’s this:
America was made Expensive and Alien.
Everything essential is costly, the country has been made demographically unrecognizable, the ability to be alive in a fixed location—of all possible expenses—specifically didn’t benefit from money printing, and the ability for a regular person to navigate this in any way, so long as they by worked hard and played by the rules has been exploded, too.
There’s lots not captured here: bewildering cultural fragmenting and social changes wrought by technology and immigration and ideological movements (everyone is now hooked on their phone, on hold with tech support or interrupted by spam calls from India, while swiping aimlessly on women who might be trans) aren’t exactly welcome either. But they’re effectively downstream of these two main forces:
The elite of America said: “you are overpaid as our help who live on our lands” (and therefore) “you need to share it with all of these other people”.
“Wokeness” killed hipsters. They started to go away with Trayvon Martin in 2012 and Michael Brown in 2014. By 2015 with the clash between BLM and MAGA, they were gone.
Do you know why?
Hipsters were the last gasp of a White American Identity which rejected “pop” culture.
Here is the anthem sine qua non Hipsterdom, “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (2009), a song and music video featuring a bunch of itinerant-looking white youths plaintively crying out in nostalgia for Heimat and a sense of belonging with each other:
“Alabama, Arkansas
I do love my ma and pa
Not that way that I do love you
….
Well, hot and heavy, pumpkin pie
Chocolate candy, Jesus Christ
Ain't nothing please me more than you”
You know, just in case you thought they were all about *subtlety* in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
In kind of the same way that Ted Kaczynski’s contributions to geometric function theory and complex analysis still get citations and cause inspiration, one of the primary drivers of Williamsburg and the hipster scene was none other than Vice magazine co-founder Gavin McInnes.
I think the next US political realignment / the message the Democrats of the future (as different as 2024 Republicans vs 2004 Republicans) run on will be anti-technology, anti-automation, aesthetically “quiet”, and even pro-“family”
Totally not pride parades or ‘hope & change’
Before we get into that, let’s see what won—decisively—against the 2012 RNC Autopsy, winning in 2016, was subverted by the GOP in 2020, and in a hero’s arc, came back in 2024.
I think any clip from @REVIVALNATIONAL could work, but imho, this is the best:
@REVIVALNATIONAL What makes this (and all his content) so good, and so compelling, is the remixing of old and new. Beyond just (Heritage) American nationalism it’s a kind of “White Zionism”; tantalizing images of an American Altneuland. Synthwave, art deco, 80s, 2000s, sex, guns, flags, etc.
Conservatism today is just calling young men "entitled"
for wanting what their fathers and grandfathers had:
- gainful employment without direct foreign competition
- wives like their mothers and grandmothers were
- a living nation-State whose institutions they control
Can't get a job? Well you don't want to work 80 hours like Karthik and Juan do
Can't get a wife? That's 'cause you're not MAN enough for a 31 y.o. with crow's feet and double digit body count
Can't respect institutions? America was ALWAYS about foreign wars so sign up, LOSER
All of these issues are interlinked; starting a family, providing for a family, having the status women care about, having institutions that protect the country, etc.
And the answer *even now* of conservatism is to blame young men for not doing enough and acting 'entitled'.
Btw as you may recall——this is why the establishment media & Democrats were freaking out about Vance and begging Trump to pick a woman or a minority or anyone else except another “jock” white guy like himself.
It scares them for the very same reason fraternities scare them:
