When @FinPlanKaluAja1@DrCOmole and others brought into our consciousness what was really happening between @ASUUNGR and FG and the IPPIS brouhaha.
It made many of us dig deeper on the true position of things …
In my search for answers on the incessant @ASUUNGR strains like Sango each time
I have come to find out that one of the primary cause of disagreement between ASUU and the Federal Government on the IPPIS issue is that of sabbaticals. /2 #ASUUwhy
Sabbaticals?
You might be tempted to ask
Yes Sabbaticals
The agreement allows for a lecturer to have only one sabbatical at a singular University. This can be either as a visiting lecturer or on a sabbatical. You can do only one, not both.
Furthermore, this also implies that as a lecturer, you cannot do your sabbatical in so many universities. So what a lot of lecturers do is they go on Sabbatical while still enrolled in their primary University. /4
Lectures can then go on to 3 or 4 more universities or institutions in visiting capacity.
That way they get paid for every visit made to the other institutions, at the same time, making 100% of their gross from their primary institution. /5 #ASUUwHy
Here’s breaking that Sabbatical point down again
The way it works is that lecturers get paid for every visit made to the other institutions/Universities/Polytechnics/CoEs , at the same time, making 100% of their gross from their primary institution. /6 #ASUUWhy
This costs the government money! The government is cutting the cost with the new agreement and IPPIS is the system to checkmate that.
