1) study our research question? 2) establish a credible line of evidence? 3) satisfy reviewer requirements if they arise later in the process (e.g. double checking things, robustness checks)
DOABLE
1) Is the study doable in practice? Even if it sounds cool in theory, it might be difficult to actually conduct empirically.
2) Do we actually have time to do this? Which one of us will do the required "heavy lifting" with data collection, management, and analysis?
DOUBTS
Let's play the devil's advocate here!
1) What could go wrong and why?
2) Are there viable counter-arguments or alternative explanations to our model/thinking?
3) What are we missing out? Are there practical examples that do not fit our model/thinking?
Finally, let's give credit where credit is due.
The initial idea for the "3D" came up in discussions with Prof. Devi Gnyawali. We are working on a really challenging paper project and getting through all the three Ds are critical for us to get where we want.
