Update: the Twitter accounts of Amnesty International & its chief Agnes Callamard are still silent on the stabbing and attempted murder of Salman Rushdie last Friday by an admirer of Iran's Ayatollah Khomeini whose call to murder Rushdie was reaffirmed by current leader Khamenei.
When Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders Qassem Soleimani & Mohsen Fakhrizadeh were killed, @AgnesCallamard, then a U.N. official, sprang into action within minutes of their deaths to condemn their killings as “illegal.” A week after Rushdie's stabbing—silence. /2
The silence of Amnesty chief Agnès Callamard is striking compared to how powerfully the same group had defended Salman Rushdie 25 years ago and called out Iran's radical Islamist regime. The contrast underscores the decline and fall of today's Amnesty. amnesty.org/en/wp-content/… /3
Note: our focus has been on the Twitter accounts of Amnesty International world headquarters and their chief Agnes Callamard, the gang that put out the scandalous Ukraine report celebrated by Russia. We did not examine the individual country chapters in 70 countries. /4
However, some country chapters were sufficiently shamed—in wake of viral tweets last weekend by @JSchanzer@FDD & myself—that they decided to issue statements. Let's examine them.
@amnestyfrance couldn't mention the words “Iran,” “fatwa” or “Islamism”:
Amnesty Sweden's statement makes a passing reference to Iran's fatwa, but their tweet does not, instead universalizing the attack on Rushdie as a generic threat to free speech, and ignoring the context of the many similar Islamist attacks worldwide.
One would expect Amnesty International, its leaders & country chapters to react to the stabbing by clearly condemning the Islamic Republic of Iran's fatwa to murder Salman Rushdie as a violation of international law. That's what old Amnesty did in 1997: amnesty.org/en/documents/m… /7
But that's not what we're seeing. It's either silence from Callamard at HQ, or feeble words from chapters. The belated 🇬🇧 statement did mention Iran's fatwa, but notably their tweet—keen to universalize it all—failed to condemn Iran or Islamist attacks: /8
Meet Laith Marouf, one of Canada’s most vile antisemites. The 🇨🇦 government gave him a $133,000 grant to build an “anti-racism strategy” for Canadian broadcasting. That’s like paying Jack the Ripper to run a women’s shelter. Top officials must take responsibility and resign.
This is a small sample of Canadian government-funded anti-racism and diversity training from expert Laith Marouf:
@JustinTrudeau, when we exposed Canadian-funded UNRWA teachers who glorify Hitler, you allowed that agency to pretend the problem was solved when they deleted the tweets. I hope you won’t apply the same approach and keep funding the antisemite Marouf after he deletes the tweets.
I am concerned this is a delaying tactic by Agnes Callemard & Donatella Rovera. The facts are clear: they empowered Russia to justify bombing Ukrainian civilians, and they harmed their own movement worldwide. They need to resign.
“Amnesty has said it stands by its report, but has now announced it will conduct an internal review of its processes in light of the controversy. A spokesperson told Irish Legal News that this would not amount to a reinvestigation of the issues.”
A statement from the organization reads: “Amnesty International will be conducting an in-depth, comprehensive review of the process leading up to the publication of the 4 August press release about violations of international humanitarian law by Ukrainian forces.”

BREAKING: Iran regime blames Salman Rushdie for getting stabbed. “No one has the right to accuse the Islamic Republic of attacking Salman Rushdie... Regarding the attack on Rushdie, we do not consider anyone other than he and his supporters worthy of blame—and even condemnation.”
Nasser Kanaani, spokesperson of Iran Ministry of Foreign Affairs: “Salman Rushdie exposed himself to popular outrage by insulting Islamic sanctities and crossing the red lines of 1.5 billion Muslims. He exposed himself to the public anger of not only Muslims but all religions.”
“No one has the right to accuse Iran in this connection... The point we see in the literature of a number of countries is that they refer to freedom of belief, but it cannot be a justification for insulting divine religions.”
UN removes head of its Palestinian relief agency @ochaopt after her tweet ⬇️ condemning Islamic Jihad’s “indiscriminate rocket fire” against Israel last week. Anti-Israel activists complained, so UN now says she “will be assigned to a new role.”timesofisrael.com/senior-un-offi…@JacobMagid
@muscroftsarah's groveling apology—for having rightly condemned the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization firing 1,100 rockets aimed at Israelis, of which 200 misfired into Gaza killing their own people—failed to appease the angry mob. They never do. Now she deleted her account.
Likewise, last year UNRWA's Matthias Schmale said IDF strikes on Hamas were precise. Hamas protested, so UNRWA fired him. UNRWA Deputy Chief Leni Stenseth met with Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, “affirmed her solidarity” & called Schmale’s words “indefensible.”english.almayadeen.net/news/politics/…
BREAKING: 🇨🇦 Canadian branch of Amnesty International blasts leadership over Ukraine report which “failed on several fronts,” had “insufficient context and legal analysis, particularly given the nature of Russia’s aggression.”
“These findings were not communicated with the sensitivity, responsibility, and precision required and expected of Amnesty. We recognize the magnitude and impact of these failings from an institution of our stature, particularly in times of conflict.” /2
“The manner in which the International Secretariat conducted this work, engaged with sections internally, and publicly communicated these findings resulted in creating the opposite effect and challenged our core principle of impartiality.” /3
