1/6 In the liver, INSULIN antagonises the ApoB secretion pathway at multiple sites:

- In DIABETES, ApoB secretion is INCREASED, and ApoB clearance is DECREASED

- Changes in ApoB metabolism drive cardiovascular disease in the Diabetic state

What does that tell you ?
/2
2/6 Isn’t it the case that modulating macrophage pro-inflammatory activity, and improving Insulin sensitivity is KEY in solving the CVD crisis ?

Lipoprotein particle levels and their constituents are extensively altered by insulin, acute inflammation and infection
/3
3/6 In fact, LOW Cholesterol has been consistently correlated with WORSE outcomes in critically ill patients. Measurements of various lipid parameters in patients with severe sepsis or septic shock indicate that apoB Lipoprotein levels can be very LOW ! Now why might that be?
/4
4/6 Apolipoprotein B : The association was found in nine studies (n = 1375). We found that COVID-19 patients with LOW ApoB values have a HIGHER risk of developing SEVERE disease (OR = 0.78; 95% CI 0.69 to 0.87; P < 0.001) with mild heterogeneity (I2 = 12%).
/5
5/6 Now stop being silly by merely trying to lower your cholesterol. Lipoproteins are our friends, provided we don’t oxidise them with sugars and seed oils ! Look after your Lipids and they in turn shall look after you !

/6
6/6 High time Cardiologists/Docs stopped substituting ApoB for LDL-C in CVD prevention. Lowering LDL-C didn’t lower mortality in CVD patients, and neither will lowering ApoB. This approach is unjustified IMO !

@orion7710 @EntelechyInc @RemnantMd 1/ The JUPITER trial revealed that participants with ≥1 DM risk factor randomized to 20 mg daily Rosuvastatin were at increased risk (28%) of developing T2D, despite reductions in LDL-c levels and cardiovascular events and mortality.
/2
@orion7710 @EntelechyInc @RemnantMd 2/ Why ? Because reductions in endogenous pancreatic cholesterol levels contribute to impaired calcium channel function,
Because Statins statins reduce complex II activity accompanied by oxidative stress, mitochondrial swelling, and reduced membrane potential.
/3
@orion7710 @EntelechyInc @RemnantMd 3/ Because statins decrease glucose uptake in skeletal muscle because of conformational changes in the glucose transporter GLUT1 or reduced GLUT4 expression.
Because there is a reduction in the IRS-1–mediated signaling cascade and subsequent glucose uptake

1/8 Many of you may not be familiar with Geoffrey Galley. Get to know him. He is a Scientist & Entrepreneur, and has stepped into the middle of the seemingly unresolvable dispute re: STATIN drugs, & provided a remarkable solution which should be attractive to both sides
/2
2/8 of the argument. He proposes an INDEPENDENT retrospective review of the state of health and level of survival of a significant number of individuals who have been treated with Statins over a period of between 10 and 20 years as compared with individuals
/3
3/8 with the same initial risk factors as the Statin takers who have not received treatment.

This will quickly reveal answers to all the important questions which will either lead to the increased use of Statins as urged by the Pharma giants, or will signal the need to

1/ Spent an hour with my friend who was prescribed 80mg of Lipitor 10yrs ago. We had coffee and chatted. Since receiving Statins he has undergone a shoulder operation (muscle damage), been diagnosed with acute liver disease & pancreatitis.
/2
2/ He admitted to me that he had forgotten his way home from Manchester. A route he has followed for 20+ years, and he now tells me he has cataracts, and worse still, seizures ! All of these medical issues are directly attributable to Statins.

/3
3/ How do we get the message out there ?
He won't listen, I can't help him ! Same for my step-sister who has suffered breast cancer, undergone knee surgery & now diagnosed with pre-Parkinson's as a result of 12yrs on Statins.

1/ Men treated with Cholesterol lowering drugs have a 142% increase in CVD deaths. Strandberg, TE et al. “Long term Mortality after 5 year multifactorial primary prevention of CVD in middle aged men”. Journal of the American Medical Association. 1991;266:1225-1229

/2
2/ This trial lasted 15 years and included 1,222 men who had CVD risk factors. It investigated the effects of various preventive measures on TOTAL DEATH RATE and HEART DISEASE DEATH Rate.

After 15 years the study revealed that there was a 45% increase in deaths
/3
3/ in the intervention group, compared to the control group. There was a 142% increase in heart disease deaths in the intervention group vs the control group. There was 1,300% increase in deaths due to violence in the intervention group, compared to the control group.

1/5 Let’s change the title of this study to “There Is Urgent Need to satisfy our Shareholders, increase our personal wealth by moving the goalposts, and treating Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease Risk Earlier, More Intensively, and with Greater greed"
/2
2/5 Their goal for LDL-C when plaque is present is at least < 38 mg/dl !! 😲 Well you may not die of CVD but you sure as hell will suffer auto-immune, bacterial infections/viral infections, worst case Cancer.

/3
3/5 There is obviously a need for clearer rules on funding & conflicts of interest to ensure important health issues are NOT used as a vehicle to push private interests. 🤬

1/5 Rarely do I get really fired up - but Berberine has my full attention. I have the gut feeling that Berberine may turn out to be Nature’s Statin without the horrendous “side effects” Berberine is a plant alkaloid which works by stabilising LDL Receptor mRNA. /2
2/5 Unlike Statins, which deplete cells of vital biochemicals by inhibiting The Mevalonate Pathway, Berberine does not appear, in any way, to inhibit the Mevalonate Pathway. Berberine lowers blood glucose, has anti-hypertensive, antimicrobial, inotropic
/3
3/5 and anti-arrhythmic properties which makes it a prime contender for lowering the risk of Cardiovascular disease and Diabetes. Not only that but Berberine inhibits viral infections both in vitro and in vivo. Berberine also exerts strong inhibition on the inflammatory
