Chibnall just gets Doctor Who. He respects the cannon but understands that it needs to be stretched and explored in order to constantly reinvent. Heβs reinstated mystery into the show whilst staying true to its roots.
Every character in the Chibnall era just *feels* different. They feel like theyβve been written by different people. Every companion and reoccurring character has felt distinct and have been explored in subtle but powerful ways. Here are some of my favourite!
Chibnall is a true ambassador for the show. He doesnβt like the limelight but understands the role that Doctor Who plays in British culture. My favourite example is during one of UKβs darkest hours, he knew we needed The Doctor.
Yes, Chibnall has been secretive, and the radio silence has felt frustrating at times. But it led to some of my favourite surprises Iβve had watching Doctor Who. His ability to prevent spoilers & leaks getting into the mainstream is no mean feat in 2022!
And finally, Chibnall understands The Doctor. He cast the first ever female Doctor, and one of the most talented actresses on TV. The 13th Doctor has shown the entire range. Sheβs been a hero for a new generation of Whovians and a wonderful ambassador for the show.
The Chibnall era has been so much more powerful than its often given credit. We can all love different aspects of the show (for what itβs worth, Capaldiβs era remains my favourite). Iβm so excited for RTD2, but Chibnall has left a legacy.
So with that in mind, if you disagree, please, PLEASE donβt feel inclined to criticise me. I love you and I respect your opinion. I truly hope there are other eras of the show that you love and enjoy. And I hope you are excited for the future of the show! π
