Healthcare Thread🧵: Plan To Stay Open: Bill 7 - More Beds,Better Care Act
Every time I try to convince myself that the @fordnation government can’t get any worse, they dive even deeper. The lack of compassion for Ontarians shines through every piece of legislation /2
they write, and with every word they speak. To hear @PaulCalandra and @SylviaJonesMPP at their presser this week was bad enough, but to read the true message in words defies logic and further demonstrates their love of privatization and their disdain for Ontarians. /3
Let’s go on a trip through the written words. 😡 I’ve highlighted a few problematic things.
/4
Hospital partners, AKA hospital CEOs.
Independent health facilities that use more of your tax dollars.
Existing private clinics which drain healthcare workers from the public system. /5
Stabilize our health system? 🤦🏼♀️
Seventh wave has peaked and will recede?
Periodic staff shortages? /6
Improve vaccine uptake? 😂
Still waiting for Dr. Moore to stop telling people to wait for their booster.
What about child vaccinations? /7
Dr. Moore, CMOH, advises #LTC homes to shut down Covid isolation rooms. How many #LTC homes are in outbreak right now? /8
Patients won’t be out of pocket for any cost difference?
Gotta look after those for-profit margins, I guess. /9
Again with the existing private clinics. Instead of fixing the public system, we’ll pay more so you can use private clinics. We like to pad the pockets of our donors using your tax dollars. /10
Easing pressure by increasing physician coverage. From what I’m hearing, the shortage is nursing staff. Some hospitals paid doctor wages to doctors to act as nurses, which is an exorbitant rate. /11 in
Transition patients to other facilities. Didn’t that result in extra fees to the patient?
Fully leverage nursing ability to work several locations to get get full time hours. They’re still classified as part time employees, so no benefits. /12
These workers need people to mentor them. Existing staff already can’t keep up, so they don’t have time. With the disrespect being shown by not repealing Bill 124, very few of those who left will return to do that mentoring. /13
It’s more than simply covering applicable fees. It’s this little thing called RESPECT, which is why so many left in the first place. /14
A recognition of the additional cost of using agency nurses. 👏🏼 Too bad, they aren’t listening to the Opposition and @CathrynOna. The solutions are pretty obvious. 🤦🏼♀️ /15
This Bill 7 is absolutely reprehensible.🤬
“This new provision authorizes certain actions to be carried out without the consent of these patients.” /17
All of these can happen without consent despite what @PaulCalandra states to the media.
An absolutely horrific bill that will be passed simply because they want it to be passed.
Ontario no longer has a voice. 😢🤬😢

Long thread! 🧵
“WE’RE UNSTOPPABLE!” Quote from @fordnation during his presser today, May 19, 2023 in St. Catherine’s.
Bear with me.
From my continued viewing of this government in action, my musings this morning are taking me down some not so great paths today. /2
Unfettered power and privatization of Ontario, all under the guise of “building homes”.
Bluster, lack of ownership, deflection, blaming the previous government (@OntarioPCCaucus don’t seem to understand that they are the previous government), lack of transparency, etc /3
Their donors become wealthier, the majority of Ontarians pick up the tab, and are left floundering in an unsustainable situation where they can’t afford to live and pay their daily bills.
Every day some new initiative is brought forward with no consultation with Ontarians. /4
Absolutely appalling that @MPPArnottWHH doesn’t speak to @fordnation after he tells @LGretzky that her cheese had slipped off the cracker. He doesn’t address this verbal abuse until the Opposition returns fire. Then he says that personal insults aren’t acceptable, /2
but directs it toward the Opposition. Why is it acceptable for the Premier to insult other MPPs? He stood to insult @MikeSchreiner earlier. I’m troubled by this lack of respect shown by the @OntarioPCCaucus, and have discussed this with my MPP, as well as writing/3
to @MPPArnottWHH. These members can’t reply even to their own softball questions without belittling the Opposition parties. It’s such a juvenile disgrace of behaviour for adults that have been elected. Here’s my letter to @MPPArnottWHH.
Short thread about the announcement made by @Sflecce this morning.
Once upon a time, long ago, the Ministry of Education decided that they would invest in math coaches and later in literacy coaches. There was extra programming provided for schools that didn’t score as well on /2
EQAO.
There was tons of extra PD, lots of resources purchased, and the educators delivering the PD were top notch. Lower scoring schools received even more funding to try to raise the scores. The ideas presented were great, but didn’t take into account the actual needs /3
of the students, and where they were at in their academic journey, or their social-emotional state of mind. When the basic needs of students aren’t being addressed, maximal learning becomes very difficult. Adapting those great strategies for all students was often difficult. /4
🧵The election is over, we have what we have, like it or not, unfortunately. I am particularly disturbed, angry, and upset after watching today’s Question Period about several things. Leadership is about taking responsibility for problems and solutions. Acknowledgment /2
of a problem is the first step. Shifting blame onto others is a cowardly method of leading and governing. Democracy involves listening to and hearing all stakeholders, having healthy debate, and collaborating to find the solution. What I witnessed today was none of that. /3
Introducing new @OntarioPCCaucus members by having them read prepared gaslighting statements as actual questions is quite frankly nauseating to listen to. These are elected adults who should be able to think on their own. Do they realize how foolish they sound /4
#onpoli Remember 2018-2019. 🧵 @fordnation booed everywhere he went due to the massive cuts to everyone.😡
Then came Covid. What a distraction for him. 97% of the funding came from federal coffers and he didn’t even spend that. Billions went missing. 🤔
/2
Now @fordnation has no platform again, just sound bites: “Get It Done” “For The People”.
Handing out money all over the place while not telling Ontario that municipalities are paying a bigger share, or that federal coffers are once again giving more. Selective advertising. /3
I think about the arrogance displayed by @OntarioPCCaucus members in Question Period when constituent concerns are brought up, and they laugh and make fun of Ontarians.
I think about all the people that don’t matter to them, but the elite land owners and developers are /4
🧵As I listened to the campaign presser from @fordnation this morning, I’m increasingly troubled. Kudos to @NatashaCBC_RC, @moosefmckap, @LydiaCTV for their attempts to have Ford actually answer a question. Their questions were on point, and clearly demonstrate why /2
the one question, one follow up method is inadequate but will be continued with his campaigning. It allows him to blatantly let lies roll off his tongue. He’s telling outright lies, not just exaggerating the truth. The journalists really did try to hold him accountable, /3
but honesty isn’t part of this battle. Even more troubling is that so many, in light of having busy lives, believe him. I hear the words, “He did pretty good.”, come from many who don’t see past his written script. His agenda is so clear: make profits for the wealthy, /4
