Since there’s still some disbelief about this outside of Germany: yes, an “environmental foundation” founded by Minister President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig (SPD), received €192 million from Gazprom via their subsidiary NordStream 2 AG, in Feb-Nov 2021
This information is from the documents of the environmental foundation itself, which it was ordered to release. Schwesig tried earlier to claim that important documents about the establishment of the foundation were “lost”.
Instead of resigning over the mounting scandal, Schwesig was re-elected by 88,5% support as party leader of SPD Mecklenburg-Vorpommern on Saturday.
And the reason why it went unnoticed that Gazprom wasn’t filling the natural gas storages in Germany reliably already last year was that the storages had been sold to Gazprom.

Correction: the empty Gazprom storages didn’t go unnoticed but nothing much was/ could be done about it until April 2022 when they were taken under temporary state control. Russia was accused of pressuring Germany into opening NS2 (@tagesschau 27.10.21)

As a cherry on top of the media frenzy around @MarinSanna today, I got to write a quick opinion piece for @dwnews !

In my opinion, this is in essence a classic “very Finnish scandal” - i.e. much ado about nothing. Some people just love to stir up controversies about Sanna. But this time was different in the sense that it got blown out of any proportion in foreign media
So without downplaying the reasons why and how the video was leaked now of all moments and the hints that there was unusual troll activity related to the issue (which needs looking into), I nevertheless think that it’s a classic case of unchecked facts spreading like wildfire

First of all - thanks @coolservativ for reconsidering blocking me. Second of all - everyone please stop attacking him personally. My criticism was solely on the wrong information in his threads.

In this case, which has been blown completely out of context OUTSIDE Finland, it’s very dangerous to tweet about stuff like cocaine being mentioned in the video. Ofc it’ll go viral and will be very hard to debunk again. Actually understanding what was said in the video is key.
So once more: the word cocaine Was NOT mentioned in the video. Someone THOUGHT they said “flour gang”, and that it hinted at drugs. (No one falls drugs “flour” in Finland though)

Exactly ! Don’t be fooled by the 200 years of Swedish neutrality 😉 the Kingdom of Sweden and various Russian state formations fought each other at least once every century until the Napoleonic wars.

And Finland along with Sweden, as the “eastern half of the kingdom”
To the confused out there: Finland was part of Sweden for centuries until the Finnish War 1808-09 when Sweden lost Finland to Russia. So 🇫🇮&🇸🇪 have a long shared history of wars with Russia.

As a Swedish colleague said “🇫🇮 has always taken care of the Russia problem for 🇸🇪”

This is not true. Fotinia was confiscated by Finnish customs already in March. So yes, it’s safely docked in Finland and will remain so.
Update: the 🇫🇮 customs seized the yacht temporarily several times (they can only do so for a couple of weeks for investigation & have to release it if no evidence is found) and the last information was from late May that it was again released. Trying to find out current status

For the record: I’m not for a blanket visa ban for all Russians. And it’s deeply annoying that the debate has gone to this black & white yes or no. There’s a lot of grey in between those two positions and that needs to be accounted for in any opinions and policy options
What I think is reasonable and necessary for Finland is exactly what the govt proposed yesterday: limiting the number of short-term tourist visas so that
- 🇫🇮 customs have the capacity to make sure EU sanctions are not being evaded
- applicants can be screened more carefully
That way it’s more likely that the people who want to use the tourist visa to apply for asylum can do so and it doesn’t affect 🇫🇮-🇷🇺 families etc. Finland will probably introduce a humanitarian visa additionally - and yes I’m aware of the shortcomings of that solution

I remember predicting that sooner or later people would start talking about opening Nord Stream 2 in Germany when Russia keeps the supply low through NS1. And here we go.
Und nein, @ndr, es kommt nicht weniger Gas aus Russland wegen des Ukraine-Krieges an. Es kommt weniger Gas aus Russland in Deutschland an, weil Putin das so will - nämlich gegen Deutschland einen Energiekrieg führen.
Any ideas of opening NS2 are all the more incredible in light of the newest @welt report on the shady business related to the “Umweltstiftung” Schwesig (SPD) founded last year to channel money from Gazprom: from Feb to Nov 2021, €192 million
