The first dimension @TraversMcLeod is outlining in a new 5 point plan for converting training into decent work and building employment pathways that benefit young people is about recognising and including young people directly in decision making. #MenziesOration
The second piece of the 5 point plan is about rebuilding hope by putting wellbeing and capability at the heart of a new youth guarantee that equips all young people for fulfilling jobs and careers. #MenziesOration
Third, is the need to re-imagine the role of government in the delivery of essential services, especially employment. This asks us to recognise Australians want government to partner in communities rather than just manage a market for job services. #MenziesOration
Fourth, is reframing youth employment as a core part of social license for business. Business must be part of the solution to address vulnerability & poverty, boost economic participation, and ensure operations support the communities they serve. #MenziesOration
Fifth, restore dignity to the education & care professions. The sad reality is not enough young people see a future for themselves in the education, health care & social services. This is because we don’t give those jobs the pay, conditions & dignity they deserve. #MenziesOration

In addressing tonight’s #MenziesOration question from young people - “Do I have a future?” - @TraversMcLeod is highlighting three major challenges that are limiting young people’s wellbeing and chances of a sustainable livelihood right now. 1/4
The first challenge is a mismatch between job vacancies & the young people equipped to fill them. There are 770,000 Australians who are part of our employment services system, which is 26% more than before COVID and includes 111,000 young people. #MenziesOration 2/4
The second is an outdated education & training system. Less than half of learners in #VocEd complete their training. Only one in three (34.4%) young training graduates say their qualification was ‘highly relevant to their job’ post training. #MenziesOration 3/4
