I do not have news about the Kharkiv area, only the standard shelling, and air strikes.
In the Izyum area, Russia tried to advance south towards Nova Dmytrivka, but Ukrainian defenders halted and repelled their advance (1). Ukrainians pounded Russian recon with artillery, driving them away from Bohorodychne (2).
Russia continuously attacks Soledar (3), Bakhmutske (4), and Kodema. I do not have an update on the status of any of these towns. I assume little has changed.
There is heavy shelling around Mayorsk, but I did not find information about Russian assaults on this position.
South of Avdiivka, Russia tried to capture Pisky (6) but took heavy casualties and was driven back to their original positions. Ukraine still has a foothold in this town and controls the northern part. Nobody controls the middle of the settlement, and Russia controls of the south
Russia is pushing towards Nevelske (7), but after their initial success noted on the map, I have not heard of any successful movements west.
Russia attacked the small town of Pobjeda, but Ukrainian defenders repelled the assault (8).
Russian attacks on Novomykhailivka and Pavlivka had similar results (9,10). Russia despises the Ukrainian bridgehead in Pavlivka but is powerless to drive them back across the river.
Russia attacked Velyka Novosilka without success (11).
There is heavy shelling in the Hulyaipole, Orikhiv, and Shcherbaky areas, including rocket strikes on Zaporizhzhia city.
A Russian collaborator, Ivan Sushka, was assassinated by a car bomb in Mykhailivka.
North of Kherson, toward Kryvyi Rih, Russians attacked in the direction of Mykolaivka (12). Ukrainian defenders drove the Russians back to their starting positions.
Russia is heavily bombarding that area around the Inhulets river with artillery and aviation.
Russia is attacking north in the direction of Partyzanske (13).
The Kherson/Mykolaiv area.
Russians reported a hit by HARM in Donetsk oblast near Yenakjeve, an anti-radiation missile (attacks radar), and a strike by a Tochka-U in the Luhansk oblast near Rovenky. The Tochka-U destroyed a logistics building. Presumably, Russia was using it for logistics.
I created this map to show the Russian advance from June 24th to August 24th. June 24th is in black, and August 24th is in yellow. Russia has captured around 1284 square kilometers in this period, an average of 21 square kilometers per day.
I created this second map depicting July 24th in black and August 24th in yellow. During this period, Russia advanced 650 square kilometers, an average of 21 square kilometers per day.
The Kharkiv area had lots of shelling and minor fighting along the front lines.
In the Izyum area, Russia attacked in the direction of Karnaukhivka from Petropillya (1). They made no progress and returned to their original positions. Russians claim there is fighting in the outskirts of Kopyanky, which suggests a Ukrainian attack (2).
If you don’t know who he is, this guy fought in Mariupol until his man ran out of tanks, then he broke through the Russian lines with his men and ran 175km north to meet up with the Ukrainian army so he could get more tanks.
He said it took them 10 days to run north from Mariupol, and they had to fight their way through Russian positions. One old woman gave them food but told them to be careful because her grandson joined the DPR and if he saw them he’d kill her and them.
He also said they had to leave Mariupol because they had run out of food and water. The people in Azovstal would break through the lines in cars and drive to them to supply them with food, but they couldn’t do it frequently enough and they had run out.
There is little news today, so I will only highlight the interesting parts.
As an experiment, I am asking @threadreaderapp to unroll at the beginning to see what happens.
In the Kharkiv area, Russia attacked Petrivka today (1). Male Vesele is considered a gray area, and Ukraine has pushed troops through there in the recent past. The attack on Petrivka failed.
Even though Russia withdrew most of its forces in the Izyum area, they are still strong enough to perform minor offensive operations. Today they attacked Dmytrivka (2) and Dolyna (3).
Russia shelled Kharkiv a half dozen times today, including hitting the Shevchenkivskyi district three times. Russia is firing rockets into the city tonight. There is also heavy shelling along the line of contact, where Ukrainian artillery engage in successful counter-battery fire
In the Izyum area, Russia is still trying to push south from Brazhkivka toward Nova Dmytrivka (1). I saw videos of Russian artillery strikes around Sulyhivka that reinforced my hesitation to mark Sulyhivka and Brazhkivka as Russian controlled. I believe both are gray areas.
It appears that Russia pushed Ukraine out of the quarry in Soledar (2), but it is unclear if Russia controls the quarry yet.
