1/10 You will make mistakes as a product manager. Keeping your attitude positive and understanding that it is part of the process is important to the health of your attitude. It’s also very important that you are transparent with your mistakes to team members.
2/10 Product leadership is not unique… It’s build on frameworks, mental-models, exercises as any other general leadership discipline. This is important to understand and also to “say out load” because it will automatically remove your arrogance
3/10 Open to ideas 💡 from anyone… Too often a product manager will neglect departments like support, social media managers, finance etc. That would turn your attitude in the wrong direction, because there are some golden nuggets to be discovered. E.g support = product health
4/10 Attitude towards measurement must be positive and resilient. There is very few things that can not be measured. Make it a habit to measure everything and most importantly put that measurement into context.
5/10 Be part of the culture. Your attitude towards the culture of different teams must be involving… Join as many team events as possible. It might feel like you are intruding at first, but it will build empathy. ONLY if you do not constantly pitch your agenda 😊
6/10 You are not the source of all answers… don’t act like it. Be the person with the right questions and the one that knows how to get the questions answered
7/10 Don’t stretch yourself too thin… it will affect your attitude. Go to sleep, exercise, and the well known… say no to impossible deadline. This will not only make you look professional, but also make you love your craft for many years
8/10 Do fun stuff ! Make sure that you have a fun mentality, because it is very attractive and people wants to be part of the fun. Fun helps remove barriers
9/10 Be present in the moment! As PMs we are living a life in the uncertain and in the future. This can be challenging when many of the teams require us to be present in the moment to handle “right here - right now”. Be aware of what is needed and when !
10/10 Coach your peers and receive coaching. It’s important to be open towards coaching because you are running fast and your bad habits will kick in. Being aware and have people help you is key. Also if you are skilled at it then pass it on!
