The Roys didn't pledge their shares to VPCL to earn money for themselves. From 2010, their salaries were lower than what I was paid. There were many other top journalists in the #NDTV newsroom who got much more than them. They borrowed to save NDTV, and hundreds of jobs. (1/3)
And yes, journalists ACROSS news organisations gained from the fact that #NDTV stayed afloat, and continued to pay decent salaries to its employees. That is because, if there had been no NDTV, other proprietors would have slashed salaries without any remorse. (2/3)
The least that we can do today - whether we have worked at #NDTV or not - is to curb the schadenfreude-driven urge to take potshots at the Roys. Whoever you are, wherever you are, you are culpable in the process by which journalism became corporatised. Spare us the sermons. (3/3)
