Before we catch up as to how all things with the Rwanda deportation flights stand, here is great article from the Guardian chronologically capturing the events leading up to how things went from ‘tens of thousands’ to a cancelled flight: 3/ theguardian.com/world/2022/jun…
These latest round of letters [as reported on Thursday] were not anticipated, as there are TWO linked and yet outstanding High Court hearings to determine the legality of forcibly flying asylum seekers out to Rwanda.
5/
The main hearing is due to proceed from September 5 for five days, with a second hearing in the claim brought by Asylum Aid taking place in October AND BOTH JUDGMENTS ARE EXPECTED TO BE DELIVERED TOGETHER AFTER THAT DATE.
6/
Logic, and possibly law, dictate that the Home Office should wait to learn the outcome of the hearings BEFORE distributing these letters. However,Priti Patel hasn’t ruled out further attempts to remove asylum seekers to Rwanda BEFORE the ruling considering her initial response
7/
when the first flight was cancelled back in June was to blame the failure of her policy on “legal challenge and last-minute claims”. She went on to say “Our legal team are reviewing every decision made on this flight and preparation for the next flight begins now.”
8/
Bearing in mind Priti Patel’s under-reported APPEAL TO HAVE YTHE INJUNCTION REMOVED has been rejected by the ECHR. Are the Tories willing to break the law AGAIN?
One explanation for this bizarre timing could be that Priti Patel is on high alert & desperate to save her job...
9/
Both Sunak and Truss are vehemently backing the Rwanda plan as it’s popular with Tory members. It’s also widely anticipated that Truss is favourite to become our next PM. With this in mind, it is now widely being reported [FT/Telegraph and now the Independant]
10/
that Truss is favouring Suella Bravermen to take over the post of Home Secretary – it could be easy to understand Priti Patel taking such drastic measures if she thinks her cruelty will win favour with the new boss... 11/ independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
Another aspect to the timing, particularly of the proceedings beginning in High Court is that they will begin the same day the new Prime Minister is announced, so we fully expect any media coverage of the #Deportations issues will be minimal,
12/
buried in a landslide of hype about the latest Tory leader instead. Additionally, it will be the day the barristers go on strike - so how will this impact proceedings in court? Will they even proceed? We will have to wait and see...
13/
Meanwhile, almost all mainstream media toes the party line when it comes to pushing the government propaganda of ‘those who oppose the Rwanda scheme aren’t able to suggest any viable alternatives’. This is absolutely incorrect, as activists and charities have been saying,
14/
especially since the influx of 'blonde-haired, blue-eyed, European refugees ‘if a visa scheme can work for Ukrainian refugees, it will work for other refugees also’; a sentiment frequently outlined by Clare Moseley Founder of @care4calais:
15/
‘Offer refugees from other countries a process like the scheme for Ukraine. Screen them in Europe and provide visas for safe travel to those with a viable asylum claim. They can then get to the UK and claim asylum on arrival without risking their lives.
16/
This would put people smugglers out of business and end the chaos on the Channel.’ 17/ inews.co.uk/opinion/the-rw…
As ever though, this suggestion is likely to be ignored as it doesn’t sit with the government’s agenda of cruelty as legislated through the #HostileEnvironment.
Equally poorly received was this
18/
reasoned take down of Priti Patel’s ‘illegal asylum seeker’ definition by Labour MP @ThangamMP back in April: 19/
NOW MORE THAN EVER we need to be NOISY in our determination to #StopRwanda, as the HO continues to tell asylum seekers they'll be deported. We cannot sit quietly as they bend and maybe break the law in their determination to wreak havoc on the most vulnerable amongst us.
20/
If a civilisation can be judged by the way it treats it's most vulnerable members, then we are in appalling shape.
The government are currently declining to help us, and the opposition are barely opposing,
21/
so it's down to US to ensure these desperate people get the support they need, as is theirs BY LAW.

Representation in media and TV of all PoC matters in general.
However, it is actually necessary when discussing any racism related topics. A great example of this came about
1/
mid week when Andrew pierce decided to target young Black Londoners by stating “there is a particular problem with knife and gun crime with young Black men” on @GMB. 2/
The discussion was about the horrific murder of Olivia Pratt-Korbel, the fact that Andrew managed to twist the conversation towards young Black men proves his racism was not only premeditated, but it is ingrained within him.
Undoubtedly he is the best F1 driver in history, but it's his actions off the circuit that also make him a legend. A brief overview from us highlighting some key aspects of racism encountered by @LewisHamilton and his valiant and commendable response: 1/
Nelson Piquet’s [retired Brazilian F1 driver] racial slur [the N word] is probably the most recent and prominent incident, here is what Lewis had to say on this: 2/
However, it was the ‘Black facing’ incident by ‘F1 fans’ in 2008 which still haunts him to this very day! Due to Formula 1 having a serious problem with lack of diversity, he said: “I remember the pain I felt that day, but I didn’t say anything about it. I DIDN’T HAVE ANYONE.” 3/
The news broke this week that the Metropolitan police have form for strip-searching children... especially young Black boys, who made up a statistically significant proportion of the 650 searched!!! 1/ independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n…
Mere months after the appalling Child Q scandal, the Met stand accused of racist, vilely persecutory practices as a matter of course - averaging 12.5 children strip searched PER WEEK!
In fact this January, Priti Patel announced her vehement opposal to child sex abusers, claiming to find it a "sickening crime" however, in spite of pleas by Hackney Council for action, 3/ news.hackney.gov.uk/time-for-actio…
AUTOCRACY AND THE STRATEGY OF PERPETUAL GOVERNANCE
A sneaky way for those in power to stay in power whilst appearing to operate within the structures of democracy.
Have those structures have been deliberately undermined to ensure democracy is merely a performance?
1/9
When governments get hold of political weapons, they ensure the balance of power remains tilted in their favour.
These weapons may seem innocuous - media control, access to private info, a shield of money and influence amongst the elite - 2/9 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
they are anything but.
With these weapons, organisers can be discredited, rapidly found and neutralised. Protesters make a fuss that goes nowhere. Traditional actions of dissent don't make a dent in the capacity of the ruling class to retain power. 3/8 theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
@georgemonbiot highlights the worrisome trend in government chicanery, telling us oppressive legislation like the #PCSC Bill will improve and help our nation. 1/5
Further explored is the fact democracies across the world are suppressing the right to peaceful protest - the UK included - thus eroding the mechanisms of democracy. 2/5
You cannot HAVE democracy without the right for people to oppose the ruling class: once those rights are gone, it's a dictatorship. 3/5
We’ve referenced Priti Patel’s endorsement of the RSS/HSS/Hindutva (Nazi) ideology many times. This has led us to question whether it’s her extremist nature which compels her to embrace Paul Kagame the dictator and
1/
ignore all the warnings of Rwanda not being a safe option for asylum seekers. Just yesterday, a Parliamentary committee raised ‘fundamental concerns’ over compliance with international law and urged her to reconsider this policy. 2/
Even the US have recognised the Human Rights violations, political assassinations at home and abroad, they’re on the verge of stopping aid. Just a reminder, we are still discussing Rwanda and not Putin’s Russia. 3/
