Just like her medical role, Clare recognises she’s not the best musician. But she can help others shine.

Clare’s approach to medicine is similar to music. She can play almost any instrument to about Grade 2 standard. 😂

Orchestras comfortably play in time at 94-96 bpm. Similar to a primary school child’s heart rate. At other tempos, there is a tendency to slow or quicken.

Jazz ensemble is Type I thinking. The secret is lots of preparation, practice, implicit and explicit rules, and knowing scales and what to expect from others. Like a good resus.

Must keep playing. Wrong note? Bend it or make a feature of it.

Piano is Clare’s wellbeing activity. Sometimes hard. Sometimes easy and can enter a flow state. “Very noisy” after a difficult day.

Loves bumping into pianos. Can’t feel lonely when there’s a piano in the room. ☺️

Our voices are the most powerful when we sing together.

We need to listen to other people’s voices more.
