A new objective of the TPLF, in the midst of its fighting appears to be renewing the efforts to remove @Oolusegun_obj as the peace talks mediator. This talking point was used by Rashid Abdi yesterday in his @bbc#Newsday IV.
In the IV @RAbdiAnalyst said Obasanjo needed to be replaced as he clearly did not have the confidence of the TPLF. Essentially this is an excuse for not attending talks.
So far it’s just the one article it seems, two placements.
The TPLF comms strategy for this war has morphed a long way. Out and out raw belligerence won’t fly so they are spinning:
- that they did not start the war (they did)
….
…
- that they really just want peace through peace talks (even though they walked away in June after exploratory secret talks). [on Sunday night a flurry of tweets including @Tseday]
- that the war is an “attack to defend attack” [a necessary lie].
I still have a lot of questions about the “Kindergarten bombing” as the timing of it was perfect for their war and the active involvement of @drtedros in the dissemination of an unverifiable gory video just looks very fishy.
Some things remain the same though, yesterday’s @AJEnglish story placement regarding the fake fall of Woldiya was just designed to provoke fear, cause displacement of people and undermine faith in the Govt.
Meanwhile intl. media (@AP@AFP@Reuters) is making it very easy for TPLF, by hardly reporting the war.
Including the theft of 12 WFP tankers on the eve of the war. In the 4 NYC UN media briefings so far, only one Ethiopia Q has been asked, on Friday, about the air strike.
By contrast everyone is running everything @DrTedros says, seemingly without reflection on context - namely him holding a briefing claiming falsely that he is unable to contact & assist family in Tigray 25/8 (if anyone can, he can) - and calling the West racist on 13/8.
Friday’s airstrike story was accompanied by the release of several dramatic video clips posted by @france24@AJEnglish and @VOAAfrica + 1 by @drtedros has overwhelmed all media.
Most headlines state it as fact, even though texts qualify this saying the incident is unverified.
So far it IMO the score in the information war is roughly:
- TPLF: 2
- Govt of Ethiopia: 1
- UN: 1
- Media: Did not show
- Twitter/YouTube: 4 (the only semi-reliable source for information)

The OHCHR has finally published the long awaited report into the treatment of Uyghurs in China - stopping short of calling the abuses of human rights genocide.
UN Human Rights Office issues assessment of human rights concerns in Xinjiang, China shar.es/aftkZC
The report was published on the final day of the Chinese Presidency of the UNSC. And the final day of current High Commissioner for Human Rights @mbachelet's tenure as the UN HR Chief.
In yesterday's UN Daily media briefing in NYC there were somewhat tense exchanges between @AJEnglish UN correspondent James Bays (@baysontheroad) and the @UN_Spokesperson@StephDujarric over the timing of the release of the report - which Bays characterised as cowardly.
One party started this war @SecBlinken and the timing suggests it was emboldened by your Presidents special envoy @MikeHammerUSA’s visit to Mekelle where he had a jolly good time and took selfies with the TPLF leadership team & them issued a statement backing an impractical plan.
If the U.S. is serious about peace it needs to be consistent, there is a belligerent aggressor in this war that has initiated military conflict 5 times - the TPLF - and there is a Govt. that is dedicated to a path to peace that has declared three humanitarian ceasefires.
And as I am sure you are aware - as @WFPChief is an American appointment - effectively an American led UN logistics institution, that party - the TPLF - is now using looted humanitarian aid delivered by a U.S. run institution to once again to Mount this latest war.
Ok @Ilhan here's a single tweet that ilustrates several of my points.
- Retweeted by @LaurenBinDC
- Originates from @PowerUSAID who is one of the senior compromised democrats iin this
- the only ones looting fuel, and detaining humanitarian workers are the TPLF
@Ilhan@LaurenBinDC@PowerUSAID .@IlhanMN as for the final bit, aid has been delivered in massive quantities for five months to Tigray. Where it was stolen and is now being used to wage war on civilians in Amhara and Afar regions.
What choice does Govt. have? Should it accept UN Aid is being used for war?
@Ilhan@LaurenBinDC@PowerUSAID@IlhanMN And the reason aid wasn't being delivered before 5 months ago was because TPLF had invaded Afar Region and was fighting a war using the road on the only road on which aid can be delivered. Convoys actually restarted before they withdrew - after the march humanitarian ceasefire.
This is not true. Who is currently under brutal attack is Afar and Amhara, civilians, again. And no matter how many times @reda_getachew says ENDF started the war, this time that fiction won’t fly.
The game is up, the world is waking up to the truth now.
@reda_getachew Rep @IlhanMN / @Ilhan you will be making a terrible political mistake if you continue your backing of the TPLF in this war. They are the agressor in this conflict. They started the war and they have continued it in the face of three Govt. humanitarian ceasefires.
@reda_getachew@IlhanMN@Ilhan There are people the Democratic Party who are deeply compromised over their personal relationships with TPLF leadership figures, you appear to be on a path to developing the same toxic relationships. TPLF is currently using child soldiers in human waves.
