Who’s at risk of catching Monkeypox?
Anyone can be affected, regardless of sex, religion, race, gender or sexual orientation.

Monkeypox is mainly transmitted through direct contact with an infected person. It can also be contracted through contact with contaminated objects, contact with contaminated respiratory droplets, through infected animals and placenta to fetus.

In Canada, anyone that is considered at risk or that is suspected to have been exposed to the virus can get a monkeypox vaccine.

If you suspect you might have been in contact with someone infected with monkeypox you should get tested. You can still receive the vaccine within 4 days of your last exposure.

If you catch Monkeypox and live with others you should maintain good hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.

Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, avoid sharing items, wash your laundry separately, cover your rash if possible and open the windows.

Take care of yourself. Monkeypox is generally mild and self-limited, but some individuals can become very sick and deaths have been reported.
