We spoke to 30 game developers. Hereβs what we learned about getting into the industry.π§΅π
1. Tools can be taught
Donβt be discouraged if youβre not familiar with the proprietary software of a studio, having knowledge of a similar software package can be enough.
Studios will be much more focused on what you can achieve from a creative and problem-solving perspective.
2. Specialize, donβt generalize
There are many disciplines within some sectors of the industry like game art and game design.
Figure out which one is of most interest and most suited to you, research what roles are most in demand, and begin to focus your portfolio on this area.
