This. It's why I've said all along that FUNDING JOURNALISM is what needs to be done, not fact-checking schools, not more algorithmic interference, not yet another stupid fucking app. Just pour all that money into small independent newsrooms. It's the one thing no one wants to do.
I've been in so many meetings about this and just watched everyone else go dead-eyed when I say "actually all we really need to do is fund journalism" for so many years. They all want their stupid-ass ideas to be the one to save the day. Well, guess what? They had their chance.
Fund journalism, support independent newsrooms, unionize newsrooms, and go forth and report. It's the only way to truly fight in this ideological, stochastic, largely invisible war -- with facts, understanding, compassion, and new ways of engaging with one another and the world.

Settling scores and covering their own worthless asses by farting out what anybody could have seen at the time, if they had simply not let themselves get caught up in the disinformation and propaganda campaigns. Next time, listen to the debunkers.

Actually, that's not true. The disinformation purveyors and the know-nothing pundit hacks are suddenly losing, big time, which means the debunkers are finally winning. And while it's happening way slower than I would like, I promise to be part of their terrible consequences.
