So Amazon shuttered the comments for #ROP ?
Is anyone else seeing this as anything but a PR stunt?
After the 3 day lock-out, The comment section will reopen and those who have predisposed opinions about it will write what they will.
This applies to pro vs con equally.
It’s tiring that some will defend ROP on the merits of it having a diverse cast & little else and others will hate it for the same reason… but a greater majority will criticize it for story issues or the acting or direction or other liberties taken w the source material and
THOSE FANS will be lumped into the same group as the racists/sexists/whatever and that’s disingenuous.
But the media will side w Amazon & write it off as “Bad Fans Review Bomb” this poor poor billion dollar spectacle and when they do,more lines are drawn in the sand…
I’m tired of this strategy that we see over & over again. It echoes what we have seen in politics over the last decade and all it does is allow wealthy billion dollar corporations to shove half-baked creative down everyone’s throats and avoid all
accountability that used to be associated w the Entertainment Biz. Look at every studio, network and platform these days- they reject bad reviews and criticism so that they keep outputting whatever they want.
Creativity doesn’t flourish in a vacuum but that’s what’s happening
now with EVERY franchise out there. Dr Who, Star Wars, Star Trek and now LOTR… (I know I skipped some others)
As someone who has always been a proud scifi fan, it amazes me how easily manipulated people on both sides r these days defending shows and IPs that are poorly made.
Shows or movies aren’t good simply on the merits of being “inclusive” or using actors of varying ethnicities- that doesn’t make entertainment automatically good
nor does it make it bad- as some will say.
But stop & ask urself who the divisiveness serves…
Who benefits lumping all critical fans into the same bucket as racists & phobes?
Oh look- it’s the studios & networks. That’s who.
They set up long term contracts w production companies like @bad_robot or @secrethideoutco and everyone gets paid whether they do a good job or not.
What a fascinating business model never before seen. This is the rise of the corporation- powerful enough to control their narrative via owned media outlets and smiting all who criticize them.
For anyone naive enough not to see what this truly means, I’ll say this…
We already see shills rewarded to supporting whatever the corporations poop out as entertainment these days.
We’re seeing literally every media company consolidate which means they’ve become a monopoly.
Creativity dies in a vacuum bc without a real opinionated audience,
producers just do whatever they want w 0 accountability.
In this state, the audience becomes nothing more than Consumers just waiting for the next thing to consume.
Dunno about you but that sounds awful.
Opinions matter & this power play these companies r pulling is dangerous
and has made a terrible precedent as to where society is today.
Amazon is just the latest to flex their muscles to protect their brand and ostracize an audience.
As I said before, it’s a fascinating strategy -and one that shouldn’t last.

Paramount+'s strategy for NuTrek is spelled out by a placed "news piece" published by dozens of outlets... This is the power of the corporations...
Look at this google search: shorturl.at/fkw18
I just read this "news story" and noted what the
assistant director of a con just said... Leo Visentin claimed that what he wants are, “new fans,” “I want the franchise to grow and continue and be inspiring to people, because it is important, and the things that it talks about are social commentaries and are important..."
"Getting new fans is probably the most important part of the process. Because otherwise, you know, if you’re just appeasing old fans, they get cranky, and then it goes and dies.”
Anyone else notice the ageist slant here? The idea that older fans want nothing more than comfort

Saw the finale for SNW and it was rather uninspired and treated Kirk's character as the meme all nu-trekkers falsely claim his character is.
If only fools like @AkivaGoldsman actually paid attention to TOS they would know their narrative abt Kirk being hot-headed was completely
false but they DON'T do this bc they like folks conflating the character Kirk w the man, Shatner... Go watch an episode of TOS right now... Go on, actually watch it from start to finish and tell me where Kirk is impulsive or "hot-headed..."
Seriously, I'll wait while you list all
the times Kirk "shoots before he talks" or "kills before he questions..."
It's a disingenuous trope the NuTrek Elite pedal...
Never more has it been more obvious that hacks @Alex_Kurtzman and Goldsman have NO CLUE, no understanding as to what made TOS what it was.

So... some Twitter observations by me on NuTrek these days...
It's always interesting when detractors & those critical to NuTrek report specific examples of how unpopular NuTrek actually is in the real world and how most of the fandom has given up on the current offerings...
Who can forget when the first few episodes of STD aired, the backlash mounted saying how bad the writing was, how under-developed the characters were, how unlike it was to ANY Star Trek at the time...
CBS' response was of course that we were all 'ists' & 'phobes.' #propaganda
As time went on, we realized that all the noise & grandstanding was just that- posturing.
Parrot Analytics was proven to be BS having NOTHING to do w actual viewership. Google Search results were basically pathetic for NuTrek...
