RECEIPTS FORTHCOMING 🎅🏽Jovial Santa bearded Rs like my 103rd opponent l Jack O’Malley are especially dangerous to keep in power, because they pretend to be moderate & hide their votes. His record shows Jack O’Malley is, unfortunately, an Anti-Choice Extremist w/a vote record to
2/match.
Jack O’Malley:
❌Voted in 2022 to keep the 1931 trigger law banning abortion even in case of rape & incest, on MI books
D Rep. @juliebrixie intro’d a repeal of 1931 trigger law
Jack voted to block it
Heres the oversight mtg 6.5 min = motion from Rep. Brixie to vote on
❌Jack O’Malley voted in 2022 to keep outdated ***ban on birth control except for married couples*** on MI books (WHAT?!?!) At 17 min Rep. Brixie moves an amendment to repeal
Jack O’Malley vote min 18

5/from Pro/Con):
Summary as Reported From Committee (7/24/2019)
Jack O’Malley
❌Voted in 2022 to make it harder for rural, low income folks to access abortion care:
House Roll Call 194 - source: Michigan Votes (line items barring public $ for being used to fund abortion care,
6/disproportionate harm to low income women, suspend funding to providers) BOTTOM LINE - Jack O’Malley’s Santa bearded jovial extremism is still just that - Antichoice extremism. He’s out of step with the majority in the 103. Let’s fire him Nov8. #Roevember#ElectProChoiceWomen
7/I'm a Grand Traverse County Commissioner running for a new *swing* state house seat (MI-103).
As a 2-term prochoice elected leader w/deep working-class roots in NoMI, I'll work hard to serve 103 & protect our rights. We deserve no less.

Amplifying the statement of House Ethics chair Erin Byrnes regarding former House Speaker Chatfield felony charges:
Byrnes on Chatfield Charges
LANSING, Mich, April 16, 2024 — Attorney General Dana Nessel announced criminal charges today in the investigation against former
2/Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield (R-Levering). The charges include conducting a criminal enterprise and multiple allegations of embezzlement from nonprofit political funds. Following the announcement, state Rep. Erin Byrnes (D-Dearborn), chair of the House Ethics and
3/Oversight Committee, issued the following statement:
“The alleged misuse of political nonprofit funds of former Speaker Chatfield have disgraced the Legislature and our government institutions. No one should abuse their position of authority for personal gain or to commit
Traverse City, July 17, 2023 -- This morning, Gongwer News reported that recall petitions were filed against me and four other freshmen House Democratic members over our voting records. While I respect the recall process as an important tool to hold politicians
2/accountable when they betray the public trust, recall should not be used to disenfranchise thousands of voters in the 103rd District simply because of a policy disagreement.
In my first six months in office, I am proud to have successfully championed a major budget win with
3/the inclusion of a new school busing equity funding formula in the School Aid Fund. This additional funding for rural districts is badly needed and long overdue, and takes a big step to address a decades long inequity impacting generations of northern Michigan school
I know this is a dark day w/the SCOTUS news, but I want to share a ray of light that just broke thru.
Our northern MI people are on the move, ya'll. They just defeated a trumper long time R county commission chair & elected a D majority on the Leelanau Cty Commission for the 1st
2/time in history tonight. This became possible after a teen & her mom (both political newcomers) mounted a recall against a decade plus R incumbent chair who tried to zero out a voter-approved childcare millage.
Note: Tonight's winner of the recall Lois Bahle had lost 2x before
3/Today Lois tied in the conservative part of the district & smoked him in the more progressive area.
Lesson I'm taking:
Look up, lean in, have hope and fight like hell.
This pending SCOTUS action is bringing up a lot. A lot of memory held in my body of what it was like to have religious men control my body, movement & nearly everything about my life growing up.
Memory of women in my church circles referred to as “vessels” “living sacrifices.”
2/Endlessly pregnant and some having so many babies their uteruses prolapsed. Memory of girls & women steered toward anti abortion activism as the only sanctioned political activism and acceptable way to have power and leadership (twisted irony yes).
Memory of fiery sermon after
3/fiery sermon pounding into our heads that men had authority over us and we were to submit to them.
Memory of being handed Right to Life voter guides at church and told we were to vote in EVERY election & we needed to know just 2 things: are they anti abortion and anti gay
1/My friend and I talked by phone late last night as the draft SCOTUS opinion went public.
She talked about her great grandmother Sarah who had children already, including a child with special needs, and felt she could not have another child… she died from a back alley abortion
2/And I remembered being a teen in my Baptist church in the 1990s when a young recently married couple excited to be expecting their first child were suddenly not pregnant anymore and I first learned about ectopic pregnancies, and my black and white worldview suddenly became
3/complicated and gray. Friends, make no mistake what is on the line this November.
Roe is about to be overturned and Michigan will revert to a 1931 state law that makes abortion a felony w/no exception for rape, incest or threat to the life of the pregnant adult (or child!)
