MEDIA STATEMENT
Traverse City, July 17, 2023 -- This morning, Gongwer News reported that recall petitions were filed against me and four other freshmen House Democratic members over our voting records. While I respect the recall process as an important tool to hold politicians
2/accountable when they betray the public trust, recall should not be used to disenfranchise thousands of voters in the 103rd District simply because of a policy disagreement.
In my first six months in office, I am proud to have successfully championed a major budget win with

Note: Tonight's winner of the recall Lois Bahle had lost 2x before

This pending SCOTUS action is bringing up a lot. A lot of memory held in my body of what it was like to have religious men control my body, movement & nearly everything about my life growing up.
Memory of women in my church circles referred to as “vessels” “living sacrifices.”
2/Endlessly pregnant and some having so many babies their uteruses prolapsed. Memory of girls & women steered toward anti abortion activism as the only sanctioned political activism and acceptable way to have power and leadership (twisted irony yes).
Memory of fiery sermon after

1/My friend and I talked by phone late last night as the draft SCOTUS opinion went public.
She talked about her great grandmother Sarah who had children already, including a child with special needs, and felt she could not have another child… she died from a back alley abortion
2/And I remembered being a teen in my Baptist church in the 1990s when a young recently married couple excited to be expecting their first child were suddenly not pregnant anymore and I first learned about ectopic pregnancies, and my black and white worldview suddenly became
