9 Reasons why you relapse and how to fix them:

#1 I FEEL LIKE SHIT I GOT SO MANY CRAVINGS WHAT DO I DO?

Share the cravings with someone. Sharing the feeling is enough. If nobody is there, call. If there is nobody to call, share it on paper.
#2 I HATE THIS. I CAN'T EVEN SPEAK, WRITE OR READ RIGHT NOW.

That’s okay. Stuff your face with shit food, play loud music or waste your entire day watching movies if you have to. Be utterly useless today. Just endure it sober. If you feel like you are going backward (cont.)
you are still moving forward. Avoidance by drinking = going backward. Enduring misery sober = progress.

Sometimes that’s all we can do.
#3 BUT I HAVE A JOB AND IT IS KILLING ME.

Quit your job, or work fewer hours. If you can’t, at least turn off your phone. Fuck all those energy leeches. Be selfish. Make time for yourself. Don’t expect anyone to understand.
#4 I GOT A SOCIAL GATHERING, HELP.

Don’t go. If you must go, use your own transport. Leave as soon as restlessness starts. Don’t explain yourself, just go.

JUST. LEAVE.
#5 I FEEL SO LONELY EVERYONE IS OUT DRINKING.

That’s the point. Getting lost in superficial social interactions is another way of never having to deal with yourself. Addiction = avoidance. Deal with yourself. You’ll thank yourself in time. (Cont.)
In our entire life who do we spend the most time with? Ourselves.

Why not invest more time to become better friends with ourselves?
#6 I HATE MYSELF THOUGH.

Me too my dear fellow damaged goods, me too. But every day that I spend further away from my addiction I have hated myself a little less.
#7 SO I’M JUST SUPPOSED TO BE MISERABLE?

Yes. Just for today. When you’ve been training yourself in the art of avoidance and taking the same way out every time, things get miserable when you stop. Things have to get worse before they get better.
#8 WHAT’S THE POINT ALCOHOL ISN’T EVEN MY REAL PROBLEM

Have you been sober long enough to know that? Or do you get so irritated that you say ‘fuck it' every time and start drinking again? If your reaction to discomfort is drinking, how do you know what your real problems are?
#9 IT IS POINTLESS. I AM NEVER GOING TO CHANGE. THIS IS JUST MY LIFE.

That would be addiction speaking. On a deeper level, you don’t really believe that. Somewhere in your being, buried by disappointment, loss, sadness, anger, cynicism, hopelessness and piles of pain, (cont.)
there is a voice. That voice believes change is possible, but it is too afraid to say it out loud. You don’t have to believe in this voice. But at least give it a chance to find out what it has to say.

You don't 'deserve' a drink. You deserve happiness.
Meetings are always recommended but I understand it is not for everyone.

Either way, we are not alone.
