Today on #LaborDay I want to talk to you about supporting strikes and unions.
People get very personally a fronted when people like therapists, nurses, doctors, and teachers strike. They also get upset and blame these same people when they can't get help.
So the Kaiser Strike
🧵
nuhw.org/kaiser-dont-de…
Kaiser mental health workers in California and Hawai'i are on strike because Kaiser has refused to fully staff its clinics forcing clients to wait for care. Kaiser is breaking the law and clinical standards.
Yet people are upset with the workers.
2/
I have seen people complaining about workers "abandoning" their patients.
This is horrible short sided crab in barrel behavior. It is Kaiser who is denying care. Kaiser not properly staffing and crating dangerous environments for workers and clients alike.
3/
When helping professions strike it is almost always beneficial to not just them, but to those the serve.
If we want better mental health care, it behooves you not to side with the soulless corporation which seeks to make that impossible.
4/
Good therapists can't be good for long in abusive exploitative burnout factory workplaces. We will just leave. Poor working conditions breed compassion fatigue. Unethical companies will not be able to retain ethical clinicians.
This means worse quality care for clients
5/
Labor Day is supposed to celebrate labor movements not just a 3 day weekend for those privileged enough to get it off.
Corporations will not save us. We need to listen and support when Helping and Healthcare workers sound alarms. Support @NUHW this #LaborDay and everyday

As a Black adoptee. I need y'all to realize that adoption has LONG been legalized human trafficking. These people want cute perfect babies as accessories. They don't want to help kids or they'd be helping the hundreds of thousands in foster care, but it's about molding kids.
Black kids are already sold at a discount. Black families already denied the ability to adopt.
This is nothing new this is not some fiction novel. This is expanding what's been done to Black, Indigenous, and Latine people to White people because they want white babies.
Transracial adoptees struggle with identity and understanding from their families even when they are placed with good parents. washingtonpost.com/nation/interac…
The "Fuck your feelings" folks are now trying to make it illegal to make "white people feel “discomfort” when they teach students or train employees about discrimination in the nation’s past".
This is absurd a 🧵 1/9 apnews.com/article/busine…
This bill is absurd for obvious reasons, but let's also talk about the fact that it doesn't understand what discomfort is. @ResmaaMenakem delineates clean pain and dirty pain because our avoidance of pain, especially when addressing racism frequently yields pain too. 2/9
This bill chooses dirty pain which is a form of infantilizing White people to "protect" them from discomfort. However, discomfort is a part of growth & learning. Laws like this just further insure that White people will not grow and improve and will harm BIPOC around them. 3/9
