Liz Truss is now Prime Minister but the facts are that she became the PM without a general election, because Boris was forced to resign by a small cabal of MPs. This is despite winning a VONC and having been elected by a vast majority at the last General Election. 1/10
Boris was removed undemocratically, by MPs who claimed to have lost confidence in him. But was this the real reason? Or was it MPs trying to change the leadership for their own personal reasons with a total disregard for the British Electorate and Party members?
2/10
In every round of the leadership contest, Rishi Sunak was backed by more MPs than any other candidate. Including the vast majority of the 1922 committee.

3/10
This is the same committee that collects letters of no confidence, runs secret leadership ballots, and controls the whole leadership process. The 1922 committee Chairman #grahambrady agrees on the leadership campaign rules, sits on the board, and is the returning officer. 4/10
To the outside world, this looks like a small cabal of MPs trying to force their man Sunak through as the new leader. In any other profession, this would be called a stitch-up. However, the cabal failed, but are they going away, and will this same fate happen to Liz Truss? 5/10
Liz Truss has benefited from the cabal's actions and the irony is that she is now in a position to change it. She can re-democratise the Conservative Party by changing the constitution, and reducing the powers of the 1922 committee to avoid the same fate as Boris. 6/10
What is needed in the Conservative Party is sourcing correctly-motivated political talent & making it into an efficient modern campaign engine. This Falls into three areas, the very necessary separation of powers: 7/10
People, the members, Associations (where we start, first fixing the Constitution); Processes, our representatives – national and local (right candidates and selection process) Systems, the campaign machinery, resources, treasury, Party structure, CCHQ, and use of technology. 8/10
The current Party structure and the parliamentary system are broken and if Liz Truss wants to win a General Election and emerge as a true leader, she must first get back to basics and that starts with the constitution of the Conservative Party. 9/10
If Liz Truss leaves things as they are then the MPs will come for her just like they did Boris and she will suffer the same fate. Liz, this is your moment, ignore it at your peril, you have been warned. 10/10

Conservative Party Members have through the constitutional structure, the power to change how the Conservative Party is run, to change the board, the constitution, the way leaders are elected, the role of MPs (within the Party) leadership campaigns, and much more besides. 1/14
The Conservative Party board runs most key areas of the Party but there are constant skirmishes between members, associations, voluntary service, and the board. Members feel disenfranchised over many issues, candidate selection is just one that springs to mind. 2/14
One member summed it up when he said that the Conservative Party board has hijacked the Party and members have no influence. It is the overpowering centralised control of CCHQ in London that is the main issue. 3/14

Yesterday I spoke about the amazing contribution Boris Johnson has made to the income of the Conservative Party and on the loss of that asset and the income stream. 1/21
As a businessman and if I was board member, before the loss of Boris, my immediate response would be to consider the financial consequences of that loss on the net worth of the Party and the “going concern” or ability of the Party to operate as a going concern going forward 2/21
without its “Golden Goose” or major assets. These would be my first thoughts if I was on the board of the Conservative Party. 3/21

Yesterday I made a number of observations on the financial benefits of having Boris as our leader as reflected in the Party financial statements. Now, let’s put some basic numbers to that for context.
In 2017 the membership income was £835k, in 2020 it was £2million. That’s the 140% increase.Thats the “Boris Bounce”!
In 2016 there was a general election with Mrs May, remember that!
The party raised £34million from donors to help finance the election and the Party.
In 2019 election the Boris Johnson election with him as leader, a whopping £56 million was raised!!
That’s the “Boris Bounce”!
But there’s more!

Can the Conservative Party survive without Boris?
The latest financial accounts available for the Conservative Party year ended 31st December 2020, meaning the 2021 accounts late for filing with the electoral commission (7/7/22). 1/8
The purpose of looking at the financial statements is to value the “financial Boris bounce” enjoyed by the party since 2017 and whether this is a matter of concern for the financial future of the Conservative Party. 2/8
Bringing to attention that in the premature dismissal Boris who is without doubt the “financial golden goose” the Party may be bringing about its own financial ruin.
