1] Was reflecting ageless wisdom shared by our now fallen gentle giant, Dr Magaisa, regarding that statement by Prof Madhuku.
Three statements kept coming to my mind:
a. Law of unintended consequences
b. Who put the tortoise on the lamppost?
c. Missing the forest for the tree.
2] Missing the forest for the tree.
When someone does that, they simply fail to neither understand nor appreciate a larger situation, by concentrating on a few parts of it.
That has been the case with those focusing on how Prof Madhuku says Sikhala et al are political prisoners
3] Yes Prof Madhuku is spot on. The #Nyatsime16 are all political prisoners, being deliberately punished through prolonged pre-trial detention.
Prof doesn't unearth something unknown, by that particular submission.
It is an open secret, consistently established by many citizens.
4] Fixating on that submission, and using it as a way of rationalizing Prof Madhuku's panacea to this troubling predicament, is how many are missing the forest for that tree.
It's noteworthy, how Prof Madhuku used that to come across as someone who means well, yet he doesn't.
5] Whose tortoise is it anyway?
When one listens to Prof Madhuku, paying attention to what he actually doesn't say, it's clear that he was doing Mr Mnangagwa's bidding.
Prof Madhuku, is simply Mr Mnangagwa's latest willing instrument, to try & drag Adv Chamisa, to POLAD.
6] Mr Mnangagwa is troubled by how much POLAD has failed to attract attention, neither locally nor internationally.
POLAD's biggest problem is both it's composition, and those conspicuous by their absence.
Consequently, it hasn't given Mr Mnangagwa the validation he craves.
7] So when Prof Madhuku asks Adv Chamisa, or CCC, to "negotiate" Wiwa's release, he's fully aware that negotiations are a "give and take" affair.
Put differently, what will Chamisa give the other negotiating partner (Mr Mnangagwa), in exchange for the freedom of the #Nyatsime16?
8] By constantly referencing to 'dialogue' & how 'POLAD can resolve any political differences', Prof Madhuku is exposing his actual agenda.
He even attempts to guilt-trip Adv Chamisa, accusing him of insensitivity, and sitting on a solution to Wiwa's plight, i.e, joining POLAD.
9] The law of unintended consequences
That statement explains a scenario wherein a course of action has results that are not part of the actor's purpose
Put differently, a purposeful action actually results in unintended or unforeseen consequences
Prof Madhuku did exactly that
10] Prof Madhuku deliberately projects Mr Mnangagwa & his state functionaries in the judiciary system, as useful solutions to the political persecution of the #Nyatsime16
For Prof Madhuku, Mr Mnangagwa can be engaged so as to intervein, pardon and/or free innocent citizens.
11] The unintended consequence of Prof's submission, is exposing our judiciary capture (both open secrets).
Prof, historically synonymous with accusing NC of hypocritically castigating our judiciary, only when he loses cases, unwittingly admits use of lawfare against #Nyatsime16
12] Is it sustainable, projecting Mr Mnangagwa as a solution to this predicament, while at the same time admitting that the #Nyatsime16 are political prisoners?
Doesn't it follow that they are victims of the scheming of a political competitor, whom Blair allegedly called Agnes?
13] I would however understand if someone felt that there isn't too high a price to pay, to help free the #Nyatsime16, even if it means 'merely joining POLAD'.
It's an expression of desperation for the freedom and well-being of the #Nyatsime16, a feeling I totally share.
14] Equally, I would understand if someone argued that Mr Mnangagwa should be engaged so that the #Nyatsime16 are freed, at the very least, on bail.
Again, it's an expression of desperation, which again, I totally share.
This case has dragged for far too long, and it's painful.
on the*
15] However, in all this, it shouldn't be lost on anyone, that the #Nyatsime16 are innocent citizens.
As it currently stands, the abuse of their civil rights, particularly bail, is an indictment on Mr Mnangagwa, as HOS, even if he isn't involved in their political persecution.
16] Secondly, the sustainable solution to this problem, is demanding that the hidden hand of the regime looses its grip on the judiciary.
Asking for a tighter grip, through some presidential involvement, doesn't resolve the fundamental challenge being faced
It only sustains it
17] As for the continued desperation to drag Adv Chamisa to POLAD, it equally doesn't resolve our challenges.
Should that happen, his position as leader of the alternative will be tainted, his voice drowned, & we can just as well come to terms with a full-fledged dictatorship.
18] Yet I remain pained
The predicament of the #Nyatsime16 really needs resolving
It's a dangerous precedent, when a regime begins finding comfort in continously abusing innocent citizens, without anyone activating a timeous remedy
To that end, something has to give
enkosi!!

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
1] @ProfMadhuku, it's unacceptably reckless of you to insuate that CCC is responsible for the political persecution of its supporters, as a way of advancing your pro-POLAD agenda.
I hope your next "reflection" will result in you retracting this unfortunate political stunt.
2] Prof, it's a shocking revision of history, to insinuate that Nelson Chamisa is against dialogue.
Since 2018, NC has publicly called for dialogue, even privately writing to Mr Mnangagwa, calling for the same, a call which the latter has spunned, for what are now clear reasons
3] It's disingenuous on your part, to insinuate that Chamisa's reluctance to be swallowed in the dubious platform swamped by weightless parties, formed solely for the purpose of posturing is tantamount to being against dialogue.
The outcome of 3 Bulilima council by-election results will certainly give CCC and citizens supporting the movement, a lot to cheer about, going into the rest of the week & perhaps the 2023 elections.
Most definitely, the yellow excitement is well earned.
2] The 3 Bulilima wards were all previously held by ZanuPF Councilors, as was the case with the rest of the council seats.
The three seats fell vacant around the same time (unusual phenomenon), two due to resignations, the other, death
In the end, CCC won 2, ZanuPF snatching 1.
3] What's the significance of the win, including potentially key lessons from the same?
First thing that immediately comes to mind is that CCC effectively unseated ZanuPF.
That's no mean feat, considering how ZanuPF traditionally takes by-elections seriously (more than Opp).
Social media has been awash with this video where Limpopo Health Member of the Executive Council (MEC) Dr Phophi Ramathuba confronts a Zimbabwean immigrant waiting for a medical procedure in a SAn hospital.
The video is extremely painful to watch.
2] At face value, it's extremely unethical for Dr Phophi, a health practitioner to confront & humiliate a patient, as she is otherwise duty bound to attend to the health needs of patients.
It certainly brings into question, her professional conduct as a medical practitioner.
3] However, besides being a professional doctor, the MEC is also a political figurehead of the ANC, performing administrative duties in the Province.
In fact, she rationalizes her conduct in a way that certainly will find resonance with those governing & funding SAn institutions
Sekuru Alex once made reference to the law of unintended consequences.
If ZanuPF actually amended the electoral act to force registration of political parties on the basis of the so called structures & constitution, the biggest casualty will be ZanuPF.
2] Remember how ZanuPF actually forms these one man band parties, incapable of even holding presser conferences, to give a resemblance of "multi-party democracies".
Most of these parties are in POLAD.
Mr Mnangagwa actually brags about the 100+ parties from the 2018 elections.
3] Any ammendments targeting CCC, through forcing its hand in putting all its card on the table, will actually expose a lot.
It's not coincidental that most of the "Opposition" parties only show up during the harmonized polls.
Fellow citizens, as we edge towards 2023, propaganda & threats such as this, will most certainly become the order of the day.
Through this statement, Mr Chinamasa has invited us into reading ZanuPF's thoughts.
However, it's just a whisper in the wind.
2] It was only a matter of time before ZanuPF removed its mask, and formally joined the demands for CCC to have "structures, constitution, and a leadership".
Away from the pretence of enhancing democracy as Mr Patrick Chinamasa claims, the important question becomes, why?
3] It's in order, recognizing & thanking Mr Chinamasa for this story in the Daily News.
Hopefully, citizens who were innocently joining this bandwagon can properly realize that there's indeed a desperate attempt by the regime to push CCC along a road full of set traps.
