⚡️ISW: Russia’s deployment of forces to Ukraine’s south likely enabling Ukrainian counterattacks.
The Institute for the Study of War reports that Ukraine's counterattack in Kharkiv on Sept. 6 was likely an opportunistic effort enabled by the redeployment of Russian forces away from the area to reinforce their positions against the Ukrainian counteroffensive in Kherson Oblast.
Obituary data on Russian soldiers suggests Russia deployed elements of the 147th Artillery Regiment of the 2nd Motorized Rifle Division of the 1st Guards Tank Army to Kherson Oblast no earlier than late August.
⚡️Institute for the Study of War: Russia deploys security forces to Luhansk, forcibly transfers Ukrainian children to Russia.
The U.S. think tank reports that the Russian proxies in Luhansk Oblast announced joint patrols with police detachments from Russia’s Leningrad Oblast, which may signal that support for the war is dwindling.
The ISW also suggests that Russian forces may have conducted a false flag attack on the headquarters of the leader of the Kremlin’s proxies in Donetsk on Aug. 23 to justify an attack on Ukrainian government buildings on Independence Day.
⚡️Ukraine asks UN, Red Cross to act against sham trials in Mariupol.
Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets appealed to both organizations and Russia's ombudsman to prevent "yet another violation of the Geneva Convention."
Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko said on Aug. 11 that Russians plan to hold a sham "trial" of Ukrainian prisoners of war at a local philharmonic in Russian-occupied Mariupol on Aug. 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day.
According to Boychenko, there are over 10,000 Ukrainians in Russian-controlled prisons across Mariupol, many of whom are soldiers.

“I don't understand them. In their place, I would have burned everything I see. Our people would have beaten up a local person in power.”
Zelensky on Russians abandoning their killed soldiers:
“It’s scary because when this is how they treat their own people, then how do they treat others? It’s barbarism and it will end badly."
