Let me introduce you to Nadia, or Meena, or Ethan, or Noreen or 1 of more than a 1000 different names I've seen seen them use, but I first met her as Nadia.

They are a scammer who explicitly targets members of the LGBTQ+ community pretending to be one us.

They claim to do this because they know we try to help when we can and because they hate us and want to take us for everything they can.

They have been doing this for at least 4 years, and others have told me they've seen it going back several years before that.

Some of the accounts I've seen them using are older than a decade.

Whilst the accounts change, the method does not.

They will message you initially with something like this.

"Thought I’d ask you something 😭 but a bit worried you might take it the wrong sort of way 😩"

And then a short while later they will message with.

"It’s a bit embarrassing on my behalf. But let me just put my baby sister to sleep, will reply back properly in a moment ✨"

And then finally, usually a few hours later they will message with.

"I’m back! Erm yeah, I don’t really wanna tell you a sob story or make you feel sorry for me or whatever but I’ll be honest.. and I’ve started asking others on here as well. Are you able to PayPal or" ...

"cashapp anything like £12/$12? I’ll be able to to repay it back immediately as soon as i can. My job hasn’t paid me properly and got rent coming up and getting short on food as well, something like £12 would help massively, if you can’t honestly it’s totally fine I" ...

At which point they will repeatedly ask if you can help, going for several days, even if you ignore them.

The question is, what can we do, this has (probably) been going on for over a decade with exactly the same pattern.

I personally have tracked and reported 1000 of account/account renames, as have many others, but @TwitterSupport is unwilling to actually investigate.

💚 Paste the screenshot with their @ into this thread, I will add it to the accounts I am tracking.
💙 If the text has changed, please include that so it is searchable.
💜 Report the account.

I've been asked by a few people how I track our #scammer friend across account renames.

So I thought I'd detail what I do, it's really simple...

Every Twitter account has a unique user_id that cannot be changed (NOT the username that starts with an @) . It is a long unique number starting with 1, mine is 1538931375759364098, exciting.

The quickest and easiest way to look up the unique user_id is one of the multitude of websites, I don't have any preference, I usually just Google 'look up Twitter user_id', for today I used.

But how does having the unique user_id help us track them I hear you shout, I'm getting to that.

Once you have the unique user_id you can navigate to the URL twitter.com/i/user/{USER_ID} where we replace {USER_ID} with the newly acquired user_id.

You can also use
twitter.com/intent/user?us…

but that will bring up the follow dialogue (you should use that and follow me 🤭💖)
