that publication. In 1993, Brock expanded his article into a book, The Real Anita Hill. Brock's description of Hill in the book as "a bit nutty and a bit slutty" was widely quoted.

After the success of The Real Anita Hill, Simon & Schuster's then-conservative-focused Free Press

subsidiary paid Brock a large advance to write a book about Hillary Clinton. The expectation was that it would be a takedown in the style of his writings on Anita Hill and Bill Clinton. The project, however, took a different turn, and the resulting book, The Seduction of

Hillary Rodham.

National Review also suggested that while writing the book, Brock had been "seduced" by Sidney Blumenthal, a champion and friend of the Clinton circle.

When Ken Starr was investigating Bill Clinton for his affair with Monica Lewinsky, Blumenthal was alleged to

have spread false rumors to reporters including saying that a deputy to Starr had sexually abused boys at a Christian camp and that Lewinsky was a stalker.

Blumenthal also later served as a consultant to the left-leaning watchdog group Media Matters for America.

founded in 2004 by journalist and political activist David Brock.

While not referring specifically to the pizza conspiracy theory, the groups asserted that “General Flynn has repeatedly made Islamophobic statements and peddled anti-Muslim conspiracy theories,” including his much-noted comment early this year that “Fear of Muslims is RATIONAL.”

The groups also pointed to a “blatantly anti-Semitic tweet” that Flynn apologized for in July, after he retweeted a post critical of CNN that included the words: “Not anymore, Jews.”

Flynn posed a tweet containing the hashtag "#spiritcooking,” a reference to a bizarre rumor

alleging that Clinton’s campaign manager, John Podesta, took part in occult rituals in which people consume goat blood, snake venom and semen of the salamander. The rumor alleges that used condoms and bloody tampons are collected and then squeezed into “spirit topping”.

On his second tour in Afghanistan, Matt Pottinger met U.S. Army General Michael T. Flynn, with whom he co-wrote a report. The report, published in January 2010 through the Center for a New American Security, was titled Fixing Intel: A Blueprint for Making Intelligence Relevant in
