Todd Boehly has held talks with Luis Campos, as first reported by @TimesSport. Campos is effectively freelance despite being football advisor to PSG. He's also employed by Celta. Protection clauses in Campos' PSG contract prevent him working for another big club in parallel.
Campos would have to pay PSG to end his contract, with the club "quite surprised" at #CFC links and the level of personal background briefing from Campos' team. PSG feel the summer window was a success despite missing out on Inter's Milan Skriniar.
But sources concede there was tension between Campos and ex-director of sport Antero Henrique, who was charged with spearheading outgoings.
PSG point to 22 departures. But with a number of those deals loans, Campos believed incomings were hampered arguing more permanent deals were needed to further move in the market. Campos and PSG have slightly different opinions here...
PSG don't consider Bernardo Silva and Marcus Rashford 'failed' targets. Club always felt Silva was being priced out the market and Rashford's agent was using suitors as leverage to take to #MUFC. Neither deal became advanced or realistic as a result.
Skriniar was the big priority right up to deadline day but Inter held firm. PSG don't believe outgoings stopped this deal. They just never wanted to pay more than €65m and by the end of the window Inter were demanding closer to €80m.
The advantage of Campos to Chelsea is he could be either a sporting director or an advisor. The latter would still give the club the option to wait for Michael Edwards. Edwards held multiple meetings with #CFC in August and was made what one source calls "an outstanding offer"
Edwards was "blown away" by the project but still firm that he was not available in the short- or medium- term. He wants a full-year break from football.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea find a way of involving him long-term, but he has turned down the job based on being in place for this January's window. Chelsea are also still looking at Monaco's Paul Mitchell, who is extremely keen on the role.
Mitchell recently joined the Monaco board but it's not thought that will present any significant hurdles if he's successful. He comes recommended by Marina Granovskaia, having been previously considered as technical director.
Maxwell is not in the running, whilst Atletico Madrid deny any approach for Andrea Berta (another Granovskaia recommendation). Chelsea feel that now the window is shut they can appoint a sporting director quickly with candidates in jobs more accessible.
If they employ someone at another club they'll need to move fast to have a sporting director in place by January since there is likely to be a significant gardening leave period, as Newcastle found out when they employed Dan Ashworth from Brighton. This would not apply to Campos.
No final decision on any candidate has been made yet with Graham Potter's input seen as essential. Potter's own recruitment specialist, Kyle Macaulay, will also be given a big say.
Boehly also wants to step back from 'imminent' or hands-on recruitment at least at first-team level and focus instead on building a long-term football model for success underpinned by data and with the aim of creating clearer pathways.

Chelsea have sacked Thomas Tuchel. He was informed this morning. The decision is not only down to mixed results or a reaction to the poor Dinamo loss alone. It’s part of a wider summer of strategic change, too.
The new American owners had every intention of sticking with Tuchel when they first joined. And by spending £270m+ they backed him with a record spend. But there were doubts (and eventually friction) over how he handled the ownership transition.
Tuchel was given more responsibility and ultimately authority. To some degree every manager wants this, but with Boehly as interim sporting director Tuchel’s role became pivotal. Boehly and Tuchel were in daily contact, often for hours. There was a constant stream of calls.

Strong words from PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi at Football Talks. Reiterates opposition to the ESL, says some big clubs are "scared of competition" & has a dig (without naming them) at Barcelona's debt. Khelaifi also confirms PSG is worth €4bn having bought club for €70m.
🗣️ On European Super League: "You call it the Super League. I call it the non-Super League. Football needs to be developed in a way that it respects small, medium & big clubs, & also fans... some clubs don't want medium clubs to get any bigger. They're scared of competition...
🗣️"The ecosystem of football is bigger than just two or three clubs. That's very important. The message has been sent to everyone that nobody can break the ecosystem of football...

Chelsea confirm Reece James has signed a new five-year deal. There is an option to extend by a year on top.

James becomes the highest-paid defender at the club.🤝 Image
Chelsea’s new owners planned to offer improved terms to James even before the sale was complete. Getting him to sign was a priority since day one.

Chelsea will also offer Mason Mount a new contract.
One thing the new American owners have already done well is develop more of a people culture at the club. That starts from the top and Todd Boehly being so accessible has been well received by staff and players. That helps when convincing prized assets to stay.

Leicester are now prepared to sell Wesley Fofana. The club stance has softened after a series of meetings between Brendan Rodgers and Fofana. Chelsea’s third offer not expected to be £85m. There’s a real feeling a bid shy of £80m with a preferable structure could be accepted.
Leicester are tough negotiators but they want time, should they sell, to reinforce. That’s why the structure is important. #LCFC will also want a big chunk upfront.
Leicester sources have always said it will take a world-record fee for a defender, but still told #CFC trying for under £80m first. Chelsea also want a verbal agreement from direct talks rather than making ‘blind’ formal offers. This speeds up negotiation.

🗣️ Rodgers on whether Fofana asked to be left out or it was his decision. "It was both of us. It was off the back of an open conversion."

#CFC see Fofana as their top priority before the window shuts.
There has been lots of back and forth over both the number and structure. #CFC want to get as close to a 'final' offer as they can with imminent bid to put pressure on #LCFC, who still say valuation hasn't come close. But that stance is based on the two rejected bids.
Chelsea hope a deal is done before they host Leicester on August 27, not so much because they want Fofana for the fixture. Game itself doesn't really alter anything even though it's a nice subplot. It's to give them time to look elsewhere in the market if they don't succeed.

Wesley Fofana and Brendan Rodgers held multiple meetings this week. Fofana again reiterated his desire to leave. As per @TheAthleticUK he is not expected to play against Southampton. Fofana asked not to be involved.
Rodgers said in his pre-match press conference he would omit players who are not in the right mindset. No third bid has yet been formally tabled by #CFC.
Told Fofana's omission is not part of any formal 'transfer protocol' just yet. In other words, his likely omission is down to player desire not pending- or post- agreement process. But it's clearly good news for Chelsea.
