Truly 9/11 Twitter is a view of the dumpster fire that can be Twitter, so for those of you haven’t had this seared into their brains, let’s review what happened on this day 21 year ago:
4 planes filled with innocent civilians left for cross-country trips that they never arrived at. There were no survivors
The North Tower was the first to be hit, and it collapsed in 102 mins. There were no survivors above the impact zone. Likely it was impassable but we’ll never know.
Dozens of the staff of Cantor Fitzgerald were shown in broken windows in the 100s floors standing on top of each other.

Reports are that it was almost impossible to breathe and the floor was so hot people were standing on desks
The South Tower (second to be hit) collapsed in 56 mins. Less than 10 people escaped from above the impact zone. Most of the FDNY that died were killed in the surprise collapse of the South Tower
Numbers vary, but around 200+ people jumped between the two towers.

Those people were blown out / pushed out, and all had “homicide” listened on their death certificates.
The quote captured on camera is, “How bad must things be up there that (jumping 100 stories) is the better option?”
Many of us in NYC had friends / family in the Towers, and likely if they were below the impact zone they survived. But we will never, ever forget how Al-Qaeda tried to murder them
My first cousin was around the 40th floor of the North Tower. He survived and almost immediately proposed to his girlfriend (now wife). My boyfriend’s father escaped the building and walked 14 miles to the George Washington Bridge to get back to Rockland (he hitch-kicked)
I didn’t know my cousin was there until my mother called me at college around 8pm, but my bf thought for several hours that day his father was dead.
When I moved to NYC in 2007 I had to walk past “The Pile” everyday to go to work, and all of my colleagues a few years older than me have stories of that day. We don’t talk about it a lot.
It’s not compatible to anything. Just stop. It’s wrong. It’s still upsetting 21 years later.

May the memorial in lights run forever:
If you want to talk about REAL HEROES this day had so many -

Rick Rescorla - Head of Security of Morgan Stanley. He did not survive as he told his wife he wouldn’t leave the building until everyone was safe.

Only 6 Morgan Stanley employees died

Welles Crowther, 24, personally rescued at least 7 people from the South Tower Sky Lobby after the plane hit.

He went back to the 78th floor at least twice.

His body was found with FDNY command center.

Orio Palmer, FDNY, made it up to the 78th floor Sky Lobby in the South Tower - in full gear - before the Tower collapsed

Daniel Lewin - American-Israeli citizen who was the first victim of 9/11. He sat near the terrorists on the first flight and since he knew Arabic he knew what they were saying and tried to stop them. The terrorists stabbed him to death.

Of course he wasn’t in his office. He was literally saving people’s lives.

If he died on the command center on the ground floor he could’ve escaped. But he was busy helping everyone else.
