Last week, I spoke to voters in the Holland area about issues we're facing as a county as part of a @LWVHolland
candidate meet and greet event.
This links directly to the 5 minutes I was at the microphone:
The forum was held at Herrick District Library by City Hall in downtown Holland. After her group supported defunding Patmos Library, my opponent, Lucy Ebel, failed to show up for the event.
She did show up to city hall in 2020 to rant against an anti-discrimination ordinance.
Here's former mayor of Holland and current candidate for the 86th State House District against @LarryJackson86, Nancy DeBoer failing to come up with a justification for being the deciding against that anti-discrimination ordinance.
This vote helped lead to her getting unelected.
It's surprisingly difficult to figure out what thing Nancy said or did that ultimately led to Holland getting a decent mayor. We can't even ask her, because like my opponent Lucy Ebel, she is dodging a @MiVoterPower forum.
She's afraid of looking bad on video near Larry Jackson.
Lucy Ebel, my opponent in the race for Ottawa County Commission District 2, spoke against the anti-discrimination ordinance in the city of Holland twice. She ranted that the LGBTQ community doesn't need housing or employment protection because "homosexuals are all over the place"
After the co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party tweeted a hateful and homophobic slur against Michigan resident, Afghanistan veteran, and US Department of Transportation @SecretaryPete Buttigieg on 9-11, we know MIGOP is broken at all levels.
Despite the efforts of former mayor Nancy DeBoer, my opponent Lucy Ebel, and their allies to prevent the ordinance, it overwhelmingly passed both votes in 2020. A MI Supreme Court case also added these protections to our state constitution for all of MI!
The statewide and national Republican Party is trying its hardest to hide the library defunding, LGBTQ+ hating, book banning, pro-forced birth MAGA fascism that makes up the core of their platform, especially in West Michigan.
I don't think we should let them 🤷🏽♂️

Nancy used to be mayor of Holland, until she was unelected for having the worst #cannabis take you'll ever hear in a Twitter video. Because of this video, she's now refusing to debate @LarryJackson86.
Pastor Spencer is happy to tell you what he's telling Nancy to think though 😬
.@deboernancy was also unelected for blocking a city ordinance that would have provided protection for LGBTQ+ residents in areas of housing and employment.
Instead of being honest with voters, and saying she was forcing the community to adhere to her religion, she lied. A lot.
Every Pitch, Every Campaign: 1) Establish Urgency 2) Connect to Concrete Action 3) Make a Hard Ask 4) Eliminate Excuses 5) Repitch Until You Get at Least 2 Yeses
Establish urgency. This election is critical. The issues on the line matter and will be decided on election day. Not voting is a *public* statement that those issues don't matter to a potential voter.
Connect to a concrete actions. Knocking on doors at a scheduled canvass. Phone banking during an established call time. Connect them to relational organizing apps and lists. Let them know these actions answer the urgency established in the above tweet.
Bill Huizenga represents the area of the district in the red square. His old gerrymandered district is in green. He's a no-name candidate in most of the district. He needs an opponent, especially one like Joseph Alfonso who is a Marine #veteran on the state plumbing board.
The host from the Detroit Regional Chamber kicks off the #MIGOP#Debate by thanking the candidates for taking time away from their busy schedule of grifting and griping. #MIGOV #MPC22
The hosts of today's debate are @rickpluta and @RickAlbinWoodTV, both of whom I had conversations with at the Republican nominating convention in Grand Rapids a couple months ago. @DistillSocial was there too. 😇
Kevin Rinke, just made up total nonsense claim about "abortions" that happen 28 days ✨after✨ a baby is born.
This is illegal, and it is murder. 🤦🏽♂️ #MIGov #MPC22
There is some pretty serious tension in this video, but at the end, one of the protesters taps a car, and then a protest organizer uses a megaphone to tell that protester not to attack cars like that.
Then Drew here drops a pedantic racist trope about control.
The video is actual evidence that in these seriously tense situations, the protesters are doing everything they can to make sure the protests continue peacefully.
The racists continue to try to paint the protesters as violent, but they will not succeed in GR.
The reason they will fail, is because Justice for Black Lives Grand Rapids has had to have far too many marches for just causes around the police station. They know the spin tactics. The objective is to fix the structure that caused this shooting so it stops happening.
