“Talks now appear headed toward a stalemate until after the U.S. midterm elections on Nov. 8, according to European diplomats.
‘This is the most likely scenario,’ one senior European diplomat said.”
Israel has a similar assessment, I reported diplomatic.substack.com/p/israel-belie…
New ICG report assesses still narrow pathway to a deal, but starts to outline ideas for if it fails. None of them look more promising. crisisgroup.org/b87-middle-eas…

Dan Scavino and 40 others received subpoenas, Boris Epshteyn had his phone seized
(possibly related to weirdness of whatever Trump doing at his virginia golf club? ?)
“According to one subpoena obtained by NYT, the subpoenas asked for any records or communications from people who organized, spoke at or provided security for Trump’s rally at the Ellipse. They also requested information about any members of the executive and legislative branches

Duma member tells one of the saner guests to watch his language. But the bubble is pretty clearly pierced
the state Duma rep Alexander Kazakov (left) not so subtly threatens “non comrade” Nadezhdin to watch his language, but then he and fellow Duma member “it’s all going to plan” Sergey Mironov get sort of mugged by the other panelists.

Latest Iranian response has dashed prospects for a rapid breakthrough. Israel now assesses US admin would prefer not submit any finished deal to Congress before November midterms, which come a week after Israeli elections. diplomatic.substack.com/p/israel-belie…
“My understanding is that the administration has no desire for debate [on a revived deal] in Congress before the midterm elections. It’s not that they would not pass it; they will pass it. But in the process, there would be a lot of criticism.” diplomatic.substack.com/p/israel-belie…

“Asked what he thought of the argument for the appointment of a special master…, Barr laughed.
‘I think it’s a crock of shit,’ he said, adding, ‘I don’t think a special master is called for.’”
Barr apparently did separate interviews with Fox, NYT WSJ… to trash Trump case for a special master. The kremlinology is fascinating.
NYT piece continues: “Barr has not been afraid to criticize Trump since leaving office, but he has seldom been quite so blunt in his assessment as during the interview on Friday afternoon, or earlier in the day when he expressed similar sentiments on Fox News.
